Angle Shoooter - How to...Avoid? Angle Shoooter - How to...Avoid?

I just had angle shot done on me. I want this thread to be about different angles so we can identify and protect against them.

Post angles you've done or done on you. Here's mine...

Playing a tournament and blinds are 1k-2k-200.

I raise UTG to 4500 with AK, all fold to the button. Button calls, SB & BB fold. I have about 115k behind and he has about the same.

Flop comes
A 4 9 Rainbow

I make it 11k. He goes in the tank for about 30 second before calling/making it 20k.

The way he Raised seemed totally accidental. He grabbed a stack of 1,000's and cut it in half and then he grabbed 1000 from the front of his stack what he thought were two 500's and quickly threw them in. What he thought were 500's were 5000's. once it hit the felt he said "call."

It really seemed like an honest mistake. He called the floor over and tried to explain. But here was the kicker that made this all believable. He said

"Floor just come here for a second and look at my hand. You think I meant to call or raise?" He showed the floor and then he said "obviously I'm only calling."

Anyway a little chitter chatter and obviously the bet stood. Turn comes and off-suit 3 and I bet 20k.

He lights up and says "now you're just taking advantage of the situation, this is Bullsh*t." He's about the throw his cards into the muck and then says, "karma's a *****, I'ma suck out on you. I'm allin"

I told him "well I'm going to call and you'll see I wasn't taking advantage of the situation." I show AK and he flips over pocket 9's a set made on the flop. River was pointless.

The whole table went nuts on him and I quickly left before I lost my mind.

Anyway, this was the worst feeling I ever had playing poker and I'll never fall for it again. But I'm sure it's not the last angle shooter I'll come across. I want us to share stories so we can know what to protect against. Anyone else have a story?

This. Again. It is so old. Been done forever.

The way to protect against this is to have read about it or seen it done. Now you know, and should be able to fold in the future.

Honestly, I wish this would happen preflop when I have KK. That would be the most fun I ever had folding KK cards up, ever.

But, in the spirit of the thread, I will put forth one.

As seen in a youtube video dispute between poker pros of varied epeen sizes, it is illegal/angle to place high value chips in the back of your stack, and conceal the value of your stack. This angle (either on accident or on purpose) will cause players to make incorrect bet sizes when they think you are having to risk a lot more by calling if you in fact have a small stack versus a big stack.

Avoid: always ask "how deep are you" when considering bet sizing, and actually always do it so you are not exploitable.

Also, avoid the BBV (This subforum) if you dont want to be roasted by degenerate degens who love to degen all day and then degen later while trolling your post and making degenerate selfies.

I think you misunderstood. He had the large denominations in front. He had about 9 stacks all together.
4X 1000
1x 500
3x 100's
and a couple short stacks

The short 500 stack was next to his 5k stack that was in from of all his chips. He grabbed the 5k that was next to the 500s. That's why it seemed so honest.

In that case, well played. They usually have AQ.

I've seen 'em all.

The Chicago flim flam with a insider kablooey...

The ol'e dope a rope with a side play of sugar daddy...

And my personal favorite,

The Rumpelstiltskin with a Jimmy Dean prop bet and "wink" to the dealer...

None of these are avoidable.

You can't really explain the Rumpelstiltskin with a Jimmy Dean prop bet and "wink" to the dealer. You just have to experience it yourself.

I remember playing 100PLO zoom & in one hand a villain started raging in the chat about how poker is rigged and raised my AATT on a T99 board. He said he was sick of Stars rigging the game against him. I repotted it & he said something like "**** u for taking advantage of my tilt u won't scare me away" and pushed all in. I call and he has 99. Turn card was a T for Quads over Quads

U don't have the same luck as me op

Next time just fold

Nobody says that **** unless they want u to call

Plus TPTK can't handle that kinda heat anyways unless ur either like 8bb deep or up against Gus Hansen

First, I believed him because that was how he was betting all day. Cutting a stack in half and then grabbing other denominations to complete his bet. Almost like he was OCD and had to have a colorful spread for his bets. So yeah, seemed pretty standard by him.

No one else has a story? Is this the only angle in existence?

It's literally the first thing people teach you about reads in poker.

Act weak = Strong hand.

Act strong = Weak hand.

You fell for it.

Move on.

Yep, that's the only angle. Everything else people do at the poker tables is completely on the level.

I don't remember the hand at all but one time on 888 I got to the river and was feeling good about my hand and was leaning towards a call but then villian throws a tomato at me so I make an easy fold

Yup. Its just a '******ed' trick, just like online when a Fish potbets ONLY for value on the river (for example).

What? I dont get it. If you cbet 11k then he cant call/raise (???) to 22k.

You are way ahead, way behind; what else did you expect after your pot-cbet OTF?
