I'm now wondering if this is too loose. I usually play more passively than is normal due to the player pool's overall aggression but show down at a normal rate to compensate. Should I alter my defense range as well??

This question is far too general to answer specifically. Defense ranges aren't static and should be based upon the opener's range. I generally defend about double the opener's range with the one exception being defending vs. a BTN open (assuming the BTN opens 50% I'll defend 90%). Examples being, vs. an EP open (~10%) I defend 20%, vs. a CO open (~30%) I defend 60%.
I'll give you a more specific answer if you ask a more specific question.
