As UTG is being dealt his 2nd card the player next to him accidentally flips it up while reaching for his own card. It's the Kc. Upon seeing this, UTG turns the Kh face up and tosses both cards in the middle and walks away angrily. There is some discussion on if he gets another card or if he would have had to play the hand with an exposed card, but since he mucked and left, it doesn't matter much. It folds around to CO who now stops the game to determine if the empty seat is supposed to be dealt another card before the flop comes out, since that would change the flop. The dealer and floor don't know if he's supposed to get a replacement card or not, so they go to the shift. UTG returns to the table after a trip to the bathroom and is shocked to find that we are still on this hand. The shift manager arrives and is explained the situation, at which point he picks up the entire muck and pulls out the KcKh and returns them to UTG who slams out a raise. CO and BB call and then fold the flop and the guy who mucked his hand and went to the bathroom somehow ends up scooping the pot.

I once raised UTG with AJ off had one cold caller in the HJ and the blinds. The flop comes out ace high, I bet and the HJ calls and the blinds fold. After which the dealer scoops up my cards and starts pushing the pot to the highjack. At this point I point out I had a live (protected) hand.

The dealer apologizes and calls the floor over. Instead of killing my hand and giving me a refund of my bets in the pot as they normally do at my regular cardroom, the floor asks me discretely what I my hand was and proceeds to pull it out of the muck and the hand plays on.

Nothing surprises me anymore 😀

love fw lol.

obviously the normal/correct ruling is that the dealer proceeds to deal until everybody has 2 cards, then gives UTG another card (which gets mucked anyways). Dealer takes the Kc and that becomes the first burn card. The Kh is an exposed card. UTG is presumed to have mucked out of turn and his hand is killed and action is on UTG+1.

no idea how this is even close to a hard ruling either. the only questionable thing is whether he gets another card, but if the goal is for action to proceed as it normally would, that's what clearly woulda happened.

Yeah insane ruling. Regardless of anything else the guy threw his hand into the muck and left the table. How he now gets his hand back after multiple folds behind him is just unfathomable.

This is what happens when you learn to cold call at lower limits. CO's desire to coldcall that A3s was so ingrained that not only did he stall the game long enough for the guy to pee and comeback, he got a floorman to come build him a hand from dead cards just so he could snap that ****er off.

This is obviously correct, and the best part is that whether you do it this way or make UTG play his KK, it doesn't change the flop. Which was the whole reason for the stupid delay.

No one at the table, or the dealer, understood that whether you replace card or not doesn't change the flop??

it's the whole precedent thing. it's how rulings go for some reason. the purpose of the ruling is that so no matter what n*x+1 cards are dealt either way. there's 9 people * 2 cards each = 18 cards +1(burn) = 19 before the flop. since one got exposed, they just exchange that one of the 18 cards for the burn card and the exposed card becomes the burn. that process is then the same if 2 cards are exposed, which would change the flop. so it's a precedent thing overall.

i don't think it's that nobody knew that the flop wouldn't change, it was about how to correctly apply the rules at that time b/c the player wasn't there. but ofc, the dealer should have mucked the cards, then swapped the top for the burn, mucked that, and dealt the flop as is.

If 2 cards are exposed it's supposed to be a misdeal.
