3-way war from the SB

Tight 20/40 game (I'm at a new table. It is not good).

Folds to the seemingly reasonable button who open raises. I 3-bet 44 in the SB, and a solid winning professional caps in the BB. The solid winning professional knows that I am a solid player. He also knows that I know he knows and all that stuff. Button calls, I call.

12 small bets, 3 ways

2 5 J (my cards are red)

I check, hoping to see the turn for one small bet. BB bets, Button turbo raises, can hero continue?

Professional is in the 1 seat, I'm in the 9, AND he's not apt to give away any info about whether or not he is 3-ballin, so looking left isn't gonna buy me much of anything. He would probably bet 100% of his capping range.

Ditch it. Even if we are ahead... it's not by much and there are only a few cards we are looking to see on the turn. You would need a pretty sick read to 3-bet this and I hate a call.

Hope the first Monday of professional play is going well for you.

You're smoked against their combined ranges, pitch it.

I ditched it and of course the BB won the hand with AK ui. Sorry for the results oriented post, just wanted to make sure folding was the right play.

Why aren't we betting the flop here?

Re: 3-way war from the SB

Hamking--

Our hand is a pretty big dog to their ranges and betting is unlikely to fold even many live hands that we're ahead of. I'm all for finding ways to profitably get to showdown in substantial pots, but I think our hand and position are too weak, and our opponents too knowledgeable, to put any money in on the flop here.

All my best,

because the pro will raise us with AK and own our soul. Damn him! Shortly after this I changed to the seat on the left of the biggest fish at the table. 30 minutes later, as leaving, I said "bob, you can have this one" and looks at me like "lol don't make it so obvious man"

wow, 4-bet with AK? I know, it's a 3-way hand and the guy is a pro. I guess I haven't played enough to see people 4-bet with that.

Then you likely haven't played with many 2+2ers. Do you understand now why he did?

I think the flop play may be unusual, but not the 4-bet with AK. I thought that would be standard, even when not in a blind steal situation.

Jesse8888, honestly my biggest recommendation to you as an aspiring pro would be that you should definitely keep your mouth shut w/ regards to anything even resembling that you are thinking about poker strategy/metagame at all while at the tables.

Very -EV for yourself and the other good players at the table. Best to keep the game lighthearted, fun, and everything is gambool!!!

Cause we're getting raised like 99% of the time here by the BB(Capper)aren't we?

Jesse, I know he had AK and won, but how did the BB play out the rest of the hand?

not 4-betting AK in that spot would be very, very bad. The button is stealing, so I'm 3-betting a huge range. The Pro knows this. Also, his hand was suited

He bet both streets when the pro checked to him and eventually tabled two broadway cards (either KQ or KT), no pair. The turn and river were raggedy andies.

Re: 3-way war from the SB

This is a very results oriented post as you know. I would hate getting to the river 3 handed with this hand in a capped pot preflop and raised on the flop. Save your sanity for the 95% of the time your hand isn't good...fold fold fold

Note: Yes, I am still going through your blog
