Fold river.

Um so a bit of background. I'm 300 lbs and in pretty bad shape. I mean I'm not dying or anything but I'm pretty slow. In middle school I weighed 97 pounds and was in generally decent shape but was still the slowest sprinter in the class. I just don't have the genetics for sprinting.

Guy at work is very confident he can run 200 meters faster than I could run 100 meters. He is former national junior Olympics high school sprinter and played division 2 college football as a running back and punt returner. But he's a few years off from his peak physically.

Not only is he confident but others in the office want his side of the bet so i could probably get odds. I asked if I could have time to train and a girl laughed "sure", clearly indicating it didn't matter.

Am I drawing dead on this?
02-23-2017 , 09:31 PM
If you trained for a couple months you should be able to beat him for sure. But if you ran it tomorrow I would bet on him not close.
02-23-2017 , 09:32 PM
go out somewhere and see how long it takes you to run 100 meters imo. based on what you know about him, with a little google/youtube research you should be able to figure (+/- a few seconds) what his 200 time would be. then compare your 100 time to his 200! if they're far apart then you're drawing dead probably yeah and if they're close together then maybe you could train yourself into it being close. if you can get your 100 time even close to his 200 time and then get some odds it could be neutral or +ev for you
02-23-2017 , 09:42 PM
I mean, based on what you said about him, he probably runs the 200 in 25 seconds or under. Obviously you're the only one who can answer whether you can run 100 m in that time, but I'd bet against you right now.
02-23-2017 , 09:47 PM
Urgh I don't even know where a track would be that would tell me how far 100m is.
02-23-2017 , 10:08 PM
you're probably looking at closer to 22-23 seconds or so. That's ****ing slow for 100m and you're pretty much a lock if you have time and the motivation to train. i dunno how much weight you'd have to lose but i'd bet you could beat him at 250lbs. it wouldn't even shock me if you could do it right now if you're active at all.

100m is just a straight on any regulation sized track.

I just stopped in another girls office and told her about the thing. She replied "did you guys just do it?" I had to say "no, I'm this winded from walking across the office."
02-23-2017 , 10:30 PM
sounds like you might need to train a bit then... but you'd be a lock to win. probably wouldn't be bad for your health either.

100m is pretty close to 110 yards which is the length of one football field plus one of its end zones

(adding in the other 10 yard end zone makes the entire football field 120 yards which is about 110 meters).

I want to do that. If neither of us train, it might be a fair bet me vs you right now. I'd probably lose.

Book it for enough money with time to train and you should be able to do it easily. Feel free to run/workout with me if you want.

With just one month of activity you can make some pretty huge strides and should be easy win. If you bet $200 though probably no shot
02-24-2017 , 09:22 AM
That's the problem, people at his work are probably wanting to bet like $10 to $20 each.

Would have been a real pisser if there was a BBJ and both hole cards had to play.

Having a workout buddy is huge. If CrazyLond heading over and doing JL's practices leads to moral support both ways and CrazyLond getting some exercise, that's fantastic.

From someone who is likely on the "insane person who exercises more than sane" side of the fence, the actual key to getting and staying in shape is finding something you enjoy. In this, going from 300 pounds and can't walk across the office to 299 pounds but better cardio counts. Or 301. The people who have the awesome gym bods who go every day while hating it amaze me -- how do you have the iron will to do that? If you do, cure cancer. For me to do anything, I have to want to do it without regard to the end result. Friends who also do it are a huge help. Sprinting races for big guys who are out of shape seems nutty, but if it gets you outside and having fun...

This. So much.

Seems like lose lose lose win situation to me:

a) lose the bet luckily without injury: lose

b) lose the bet with injury: lose

c) win the bet with injury: lose

d) win the bet without injury: win

I would rank (a,b,c) as much more likely outcomes than (d).

Good luck though.

Ask TC to train you. He's a sprint coach.
02-24-2017 , 05:27 PM
Can TC still run fast himself?

He was talking about a guy who ran a 4.25 40.
02-25-2017 , 04:46 PM
If he was still pretty fast I thought maybe I could bet on my buddy from work against him.

Actually I think it would be fun to get a whole bunch of gamblers out to a track and make a bunch of different match ups to bet on.
02-25-2017 , 11:42 PM
Uh you don't make the match at the track. You make the match before anybody sees any extra info
02-26-2017 , 12:44 AM
And when you are the one doing the running there is nothing fun about it

Sad news that one of my favorites, and one of only two actors ever to be killed by an Alien, a Predator and a Terminator, died last night.

Game over man.
