I think you're missing the point. The point is that the daily reminder is better than a giant one time reward, and an internal system is more sustainable than an external system.

To answer your question directly, yes, I agree that integrated over a 6-month period, I would be more motivated by a gain of $20k than having to pay $100/day (which is $20k-ish) to Trump Make America Great Again Again 2020.

But integrated over a 4-year period, I would be equally/more motivated by having to donate $16/day, than to have a 1-time payment of $20k 6 months in.

Are you motivating weight loss with money or trying to make money by losing weight?

Not opposed to either, but if it's the latter I agree with you a lot more.

My goal is to make money losing weight. If I lose 50 pounds my wife will be happy. If i am fortunate enough to get paid 10k to lose 50 pounds she will me happier

Sounds like a double win.

The problem with the prop bets I see on MSLHE are that their utility functions are discontinuous; there's a lot of incentive to hit a very specific target at a very specific time, and it neither builds good habits nor continues the incentives after a specific time.
My anecdote is worth less than the virtual paper it is printed on, but the last micros WL challenge helped me get back into biking. Hadn't been doing it seriously for a while. Wanted to get back into it. It was the push I needed. I've gotten back into biking and my summer biking weight is about the end weight of the prop bet. To your point, I used the bet as motivation to get back to a healthier lifestyle, so it wasn't selling out to the goal.

GL JL.

My random experience is that when I was training for the first Rock N Roll Marathon in AZ, I was in college and did under 9 minute miles for the whole distance. My best mile time was 6:30ish, but I wasn't running or trying for best mile time, so maybe I could have improved that. But I was clearly at my peak physical condition, and I think a 6 minute mile would have been a 50/50 proposition.

But again, GL JL.

Etiquette question: the villain here is an old (70ish? Perhaps 75?) Russian woman, her English is horrible and her eyesight is worse (misread either the board or her cards multiple times). I’ve played with her only a couple of times but she seems semireg as all the dealers know her. Plays terrible, could showdown any two, in any pot.

I found out she’s a selective blind chopper. Not clear if she understands the always/never chop etiquette. So what’s my play? Is it okay to selectively chop with her based on the strength of my hand?! Her play is so awful* she can’t possible ever win, and she’s plays ~ 2/3 of her hands so there’s plenty of other opportunities to get paid off by her. FWIW, it’s a 30/60 game with 5+2 rake in any hand that sees a flop, almost everyone chops because of the obscene rake. I’m almost certain I could overcome the rake against her even out of position. I only had to play blind vs blind with her a few times as there was somebody between us but it felt really awkward.

*Here’s an example: Natasia limps early, folds to me in the BB, I check my option with J6o. Flop is KQ3, I chk, she chks back? Turn 6 puts 3 to a flush on board, my J is the right suit, I bet she calls. River is an offsuit 3, I chk she bets I curiosity call, she has 93s, not of the correct suit.

Just never chop.

There's nothing ethically objectionable about selectively chopping against selective choppers, but you don't want other people to see you selectively chopping and getting the wrong idea. So just don't chop.

Paul,
I can't send pms and you're in Bogota. If you still wanted Atlanta +3 just quote with dollar amount, $100-$500 is fine, no pressure if you don't want to bet or don't give a crap anymore.

Eh I'm over it. Going to root for the Patriots anyway, plus I don't want to ruin my record of being ahead, lifetime, at sports betting

You know you have a problem when your bookie stalks you on 2p2 to get one last bet in.

Oops, I typed '$500' and it auto-corrected to that.

Lol. True.

I think I'd be more worried about the correlation between my tab w my bookie and how he knows I'm in Colombia

Checked CAZ on Bravo at half time. 96 people on 3-6 holdem list. Who sees a 95 person waitlist and says, put my name on it, i think i might get in!
02-05-2017 , 09:51 PM
"They'll open 8 tables, and then in!!!"

Attn Lagtards:

I will be at Bellagio this weekend, in case anyone is in the area and wants to get a beer or point and laugh.
02-06-2017 , 06:09 PM
I'd like to meet the person willing to wait out a 95 man list in order to play live 3/6 limit.
02-06-2017 , 08:51 PM
He's impossible to miss
