If we are correctly balancing our capping range, we make things even worse for SB and are still able to capitalize on our positional advantage.

lets think how the "crusher"
perceives DD raising range.
So in case he perceives DD on the wide side he could have 55 without a spade here or A5 as bottom of his range...His thought process here could be:"DD is wildman I have to call but I cannot simply call because of the fish I have to reraise"
In case he perceives DD on the nittier side 55 with a spade is still part of his reraising range. His thoughts could ve been "I have to call because of the 5 of spades but I have to reraise because of the fish and if I don't make the spade check and fold river"
So in both cases his ranges merge here.
the rest is easy.

I'd be willing to bet expert shows up with red 5s less often than you may think.

I just wanna make a point here.
in real life he could easily have 55 with a spade or two red 10s.

I called and folded an offsuit 8 (I think) river. Didn't really feel good about any of it. Dr Olson is an old nit these days though so I'm sure he had AA

I don't quite get the river fold getting 15 to 1 after calling the turn at 13 to 1. Did you think he'd shut down bluffs on river?

Oh yeah! If SB 3-bets light here (which he does since he's good), then your cap is certainly for value.

As nightfish states above, you just have to balance your range by occasionally capping 87s or somesuch.

It's for the same reason that S&M in HEPFAP recommend occasionally opening hands like 87s in EP. Keeps em guessing!

Also, I've found that when people see this once many of them automatically write you off as a nutter...which is great!

We could improve, and I don't think Villain is betting a worse hand on the river.

Occasionally throwing a weak hand into your capping range isn't the same as balancing.
