HMM. I'm probably being too critical/harsh/wrong about preflop. 9-handed, UTG+2 equates to BTN-4, and hijack equates to BTN-2. Villain is most definitely not a 'solid reg', so preflop could go either way.

Phat Mack:
Due to the dryness of the flop, it looks like we are WA/WB. Try assigning Villain a donking range: we don't have enough equity to raise for value, but can't fold. As a default, the only line we have remaining is to call down.

T62r is a lot trickier. We'd more strongly consider raising because a) we're faring much better against his range, and b) we want to price out the hitchhiking SB.

fwiw I think he's thinking about raising not folding here.

and I agree this is a 3! not a fold.

This seems obvious but worth mentioning...most times when you call the river in LHE you will lose. Or you aren't calling enough.

This is actually turning out to be really helpful. I never thought of it like that. I was interpreting many incorrect calls as making a mistake. Probably common among NL converts.

Thanks

This is so incredibly important.

I 3b preflop, and even consider raising that river. (you beat some aces that all call and Kings/Queens/Jacks that might cry call), but probably just call.

And you can't define solid on how someone ranks in a location/stake/game. Solid implies something universal about both villains ranges and their understanding of game. As a part time TAG-Fish I'm offended you even describe villain as one, he simply is a fish. A solid reg might have wider ranges then mine but almost always raises preflop and almost never limps or cold calls, and plays reasonably well post flop against opponent ranges.

A tag-fish plays similarly in appearance but makes too many decisions based on relative strength of their hand than their opponents ranges. They have a 3b range out of a menu, and rarely change it whether the UTG raiser is solid or a fish.

Your description is of a player passive enough to limp/cold call frequently enough to have "ranges", and plays hands face up post flop and misses big value . That's not solid, tight or aggressive

If we are even considering folding this river, why are we calling on the flop?

definitely should be obvious to any winning (or even breakeven) player. this is one of the most fundamental concepts in limit hold'em.

with that said, the river is automatic unless you have a strong read that he will check the flop with a strong ace and/or that he plays pocket pairs this way on ace high boards. don't ever even think about folding this river.
