Ruh-Roh

Oceans-11 20/40, short handed game, maybe 5 handed when this hand goes down. Villain is a good LAGTAG in the small blind, plays fairly well for short handed, but is a little too show down bound in my book. We have played a fair bit here recently, and he's seen quite a few of how I play my hands, so in this hand I mixed it up a bit.

I raise AA in EP, folded to him in the small blind, and he 3-bets, I call. He correctly suspects that I will call with 100% of my range here. Big blind folds, flop comes K66. He bets, I raise, he 3-bets. I call.

Turn is a blank. He bets, I raise, he 3-bets, I call.

River is blank. He bets, I raise, he 3-bets!?! Ruh-Roh. Wasn't expecting that. Obviously can't fold, but there are not many hands that I am beating anymore at this point. In retrospect, I am thinking that the river raise is a little too optimistic and I should have just called the river bet.

Re: Ruh-Roh

I like pre, flop and turn - would play it the same. Agree with you that river is a spew on your end. If you think he's FOS, cap turn (which also would be a spew IMO except when up against a tilted spew monkey/maniac which doesn't seem to be the case here).

Bottom line, river raise after just calling the turn 3 bet is bad IMO and doesn't make sense. The fact that "you didn't expect a reraise" makes it even worse.... not saying this to flame you Wacky, just really at your level of play you always have to anticipate continuation of action once you voluntarily create opportunity for your opponent to do so.

Is that what they're calling it now?

More seriously, you already know the answer. You should have just called on the river.

Re: Ruh-Roh

Put me in the "once he 3 bets the turn you should just call down" camp.
