What's that %?
My bad.

My first interpretation was that everything j8 and after was only suited combos. Makes sense that hands without s or o mean both suited and unsuited combos.

The lighter you defend the BB, the cooler and smarter you are. Turning over K3o v an LJo will intimidate people and you get to think to yourself "these nits don't understand equity like MEE!!"

I am skeptical of parts of DD's supposed range. {A8o,Axs, pairs,K7s,K9o, Q8s,Q9o,J8, T7,97,86s,75s,65s}

T7o, 97o, J8o are terrible hands --> explains my initial interpretation that he was only playing the suited varieties. These are hands I wouldn't even open in my 50% BTN range; I'd much rather have Axo, Kxs, or even 87o, which can continue more often and realize more equity.

I'll share my opening/defense charts below for critique.

My UTG 6h (17%) / My BB def (36.5%)

how do you determine 0.25 or 0.5 frequency for ur suited hands. i feel whenever i try to do something like that, i find excuses and end up being way looser (eg. card dead, tigther blinds, tighter 3bettors).

other than that looks mostly good to me as its similar to what i'd open/defend. i just dunno whether 36.5% freq is a good range vs. a 17% open from someone who is thinking, balanced, and doesn't miss value.

How can you play T7o, but not T6s?

I love how many absolutely nutty ranges came out with little commentary, and yet people are arguing with DeathDonkey about 1 pip in his pretty reasonable range. I started it by transcribing wrong in a spot. 35% seems pretty reasonable.

DD's saying some 35% range. phunkphish is saying 36.x% after some randomize %-ages of playing some hands. I'm with tiger415 that most people don't pull this off well, but maybe phunkphish has a system. You're playing like 20-30 combos differently than DD out of ~500 played? It would basically take forever at a live table to tell the difference. Don't like K5s-K2s very much and don't like T7o. Suspect that the worst hands that anyone plays will have people saying "I don't like to play that".

Aren't we here to nitpick?

I'm saying K2s / A3o / 87o > J8o / T7o / 97o. I think those are important philosophical difference. I put a lot more value on suitedness, Ace/king high, and true connectedness.

Re: randomizing hand combos. Make a system. It's not hard. If you're playing 50% of a suited hand, is the minute of the time even or odd?

Re: nutty ranges. I suspect some people are looking at hands that have ~30% h/c equity against a tight range. That's a poor process since bad hands so often fold before river.

I mean my posted range wasn't super thought through, I might even disagree w aspects of it if I thought awhile. My preflop ranges aren't static anyway. I will always tinker on the margins depending on what I think of the raiser, my image, sadly probably my recent results, etc

Randomizing by suit is a lot easier than looking at your watch btw. Just play your two favorite suits and fold the others
