Re: May Low-Content Thread
jesse, for the record, just in case it wasn't clear (i think it was), my post re: this contained 0 judgement toward you or mike. the story just sounded odd to me, in that none of the pieces seemed like a big deal but somehow it added up to one for both of you, or at least enough of one to post about it.

Re: May Low-Content Thread
Playing poker is like being in the miltary, if not as extreme: If you do what you're supposed to do and do it well (meaning, for poker, let the fish be who they be and accept the company of all manner of miserable cretin who donates money to the cause), you might make it out alive but you'll probably have PTSD.

Re: May Low-Content Thread
I think that if you treat fish like they are delicate, they can sense exactly what you are doing and may catch on that they are the mark that much more quickly. If someone is an asshat, treat them like they are an asshat. Jesse does it right imo. Treat people the way you would treat them regardless of their poker skills. The fish in question just sucks at life and is miserable to be around. I would have done the same thing in Jesse's shoes. If you treat all people with respect as numbnuts does, all the more power to you, you are better than I. If you treat people differently for any other reason than the way you normally would, that seems disingenuous and any +90 IQ person can see right through it.

Re: May Low-Content Thread
I agree la peste. If you try and act a certain way toward fish it can come of as patronizing or condescending which is the worst thing you can do. I agree it's best to just be yourself but tone it down if you're the abrasive sort. In life generally I try to avoid conflict because I think it rarely serves an actual purpose. I have no problem biting my tongue at the poker table because i do it all the time inside and out of a poker room. I believe the population at large to be ignorant and stubborn (I'm not necessarily excluding myself) and I have no interest in indulging people in a argument or pissing contest because it rarely goes anywhere. Besides that, I don't think people should have to answer to me for the asinine things they do or say. With all that said, I totally understand how a person could snap, to whatever degree, at a poker table. Outside of organized hate groups, I'm hard pressed to come up with a collection of people that represent the human race worse than those that gather at places like commerce on a nightly basis.

Re: May Low-Content Thread
La peste, if you are being serious, I meant no offense. I just feel there is a huge difference from being patronizing and to be friendly. Palo is a great example, she's wonderful to the fish and drinks with them and has a good time, without really going out of her way to do so. And then on the other hand she berates me constantly all day.
To suggest an "eye for an eye" I feel is a little bit short sighted - I don't like lowering myself to a level of others just because they are acting in a demeanor (an ass) I don't agree with.

Re: May Low-Content Thread
I get your point about an eye for eye being short sighted. But, I am sure you have seen a pro go way way out of their way to be supernice to a fish and fish thinks to himself wtf, why is this happening. I have seen Mike do this way too many times. Not a slight against Mike, I get it.
