Kind of a bust. Poker room was deader than I thought itd be. Everyone was talking about how brutal the price gouging was and I heard that next year was the last year theyre doing it at atlantis because of it.
Never even got a second name on the 20/40 list. I did play in a pretty fun 2/5 NL game with chris moneymaker though, who was raising 200 plus literally every hand for a couple orbits. Never got anything to play with him though. He was a very nice and engaging guy.
I didnt play a ton of poker but I found the games to be pretty tough. It was mostly youngish guys like me with the occasional old whaleish dude. Even the old men were fiesty though. TONS of huge pre flop 3 betting and some really whacky hyper aggressive moves. By the end I was just short stacking and was getting it in pre and on the flop as big favorites.
Ate at Nobu which was cool. Me and my girl made some money playing craps. She actually rolled for like a solid half hour at one point, that was really fun. The whole place just felt too "resorty" for me though. Needed wristbands to get around and you could almost feel the disdain from the workers.
But the biggest thing was the prices. Just no respect at all. 5 dollars for a coke. 75 bucks for breakfast buffet. Im pretty price insensitive in general but it was ridiculous. When the taxi ride to the airport was somehow almost twice as much as it was coming from the airport all I could do was laugh. By the end I felt like I had been raped. I was like why dont you guys just hit me over the head and take my wallet, itll be quicker. That was for sure my last time going to Atlantis. They officially pushed it too far.
Yeah a half dozen years ago I would've liked to visit, but haven't heard anything but meh things since then so have never bothered to go. I'm sure the Bahamas don't miss me
atlantis has always gouged people, its just everyone was willing to put up with it because the PCA was great. now that the PCA is trash, it's not worth it anymore.
