Had a player who continued to snap his fingers at me to get my attention. I told him off in a very, aggressive way. He was a semi-fish in the game and I regretted doing it. So as long as it won't affect your bottom line, it's fine.

What about the casual 40 players who aren't complete fish, but not great players, don't have huge hourly samples but are winners? Where do they fit in?

From a "good for the game" standpoint, it's probably best to avoid confrontation.
But I can't stand racism, and there's a ton of it at poker tables. There's one regular at Commerce who is generally a reasonably nice guy but who thinks it is so clever to say "I laise" when there are Chinese players at the table and he wants to raise. And you know what? Even though this guy is a fish, I would have NO problem if someone called him out and told him to shut up.
Bigotry is a scourge. It may not be good for the game, but if you want to call it out at the poker table, I have no problem with you doing so.

Is he break even based on skill (lol long-run) or results (real-run)?
I would basiucally say no, as a break-even 40 player can not be an expert, but an expert can be break-even at 40.

Where has PJ gone? I'm going to see dark knight tomorrow in Minnesota (part of road trip); any early reviews without spoilers?
Been looking forward to it for awhile

Re: July Low-Content Thread
A funny / interesting situation that happened last weekend, I am wondering what would you guys do in my place. A lively, wild Commerce 40 late night game. I am chatting and socializing with a super nice guy to my left, he is drinking and having a great time; he is also a big fish. In the previous hand, he won a pot after flopping trip nines.
This hand, I open OTB with K 6 and he calls SB, BB folds. I flop the yatzee of A 5 9 and he check calls. Turn comes 9 , he donks and I raise. He asks me "why do you raise?" and I tell him "well, because there is no way you have trip nines back to back". He answers "why not ?"... and to my surprise lifts his cards in the air and shows me K 9 , then just calls my raise. I am totally stunned and almost yell at him "what are you doing, man?? ", but he just puts his cards back under the protection chip and chuckles; meanwhile the dealer throws the river of 2 which leaves me with the stone cold nuts and he immediately fires again... Does raising here automatically put me in a scumbag category ?

Re: July Low-Content Thread
I don't think so. I would raise and play it off in a laughing manner how you got lucky etc.

Its very good. It's not The Dark Knight to be sure...but its an amazing visual movie and an excellent comic adaptation. I was captivated the whole time. I can't stand Anne Hathaway and actually liked her character the best. I also REALLY liked a cop character that had a prominate role.
Try to see it on IMAX if you are able.

Haven't seen it yet. Haven't played poker. Haven't done anything -- buried in work the last month, ~11-hour days 7 days a week.

very good movie, missing the goat joker performance but still very good.
one thing that i really enjoyed was how much they made Gotham look like a real city in this one (a lot of the movie is filmed in the daylight as opposed to previous installments) which allowed me to empathize with the characters a little better.

Re: July Low-Content Thread
took basically two months off due to some burnout issues. spent a lot of that time thinking about the game but could not get the motivation to get back into the grind. oddly enough that may have been for the best as i might have some interesting work options in the pipeline but for now i needed to get my head clear and get into rape mode. decided to fill my days with nature and see how i felt. i walked like 30 miles in four days and my feet are sore. however i am going back to work so ill see you bitches around town.
you would think lack of money would be enough motivation but nope it was looking at flowers and women in shorts that did it.

i have frequently been in games where there is a lot of soft playing going on (its wide open and not even close to a collusion issue) and i generally tell people that they are free to do what they want, but i like to play the game hard and i won't return the favors. nobody has ever gotten upset at me and a few of them still softplay me anyway.
you're not a scumbag if you raise but tbh i don't know if i would. i would def explain to him that this is the only time he's getting a soft play from me.
also, why did you talk during the hand to your opponent? its rare that i see somebody do that in a +ev manner.

I do it (talk during the hand) super rarely... it's just in this game / situation the environment was really super friendly / warm and I really couldn't just go into tank and shut up, say nothing after he showed his hand... I truly didn't know how to respond and almost said "I raise because I have the nut flush" but thought it would be just plain stupid.... in word, I don't have a lot of well thought of scientific type explanation for what went on there
