It is pretty slick to point out what an idiot Rodeo is while having him explain 3 betting strategies. You get to both be smarter than he is while taking advantage of stuff he knows. Forum GTO?

??? I wasn't intending to be snarky, but maybe it comes across that way. I'm honestly thankful for rodeo's responses, and I like that rodeo is suggesting strategies that are outside the norm. I will respond to them directly here.

I don't hate this idea. There are two obvious concerns though: people behind you can cold call and have position on you, and you let the blinds in cheaply (i.e. create less dead money). I prefer to cold-call vs a tight opener only if I'm in CO, BTN, or SB.

..

before you develop a checking range on the flop after 3betting pre, you must first widen your 3betting range.

I'm not suggesting that you start 3betting the tight UTG raiser with 77 or ATo However, what I am suggesting is that if you use a proper post flop strategy that includes checking back the flop, which it should, you can get away with 3betting roughly the same hands the opener is opening. Or there's another way to achieve the same goal which I hinted at in my first post.

..

you said the opener was tight. a tight UTG opener doesn't have 77 or ATo in their range imo. if you think this villain does, then change my post to read 55 or A9o. my overall point remains which is, you can 3bet them with the same range they're opening.

I said UTG was tight -- I also said I thought his range would likely include 77+ AT+. I think that's where some confusion arose. Again, everything I've previously read/seen says to 3bet a slightly tighter range than the opener, so this is intriguing to me. I'm not sure if it's right or wrong. If I were to widen my range, I think i'd rather chop off the weakest part of his opening range and add in hands that have better equity vs it. These would be medium SCs and random PPs.
