Ambiguous. Does crack 90 mean over or under. What if you hit 90 exactly?
02-17-2014 , 01:40 PM
It's funny that it seems like I'm trying to hustle people when jn reality I'm just a huge golf fish that enjoys playing. I'm perectly happy playing $20 a hole or larger if its fair.
I do have a very high variance game though, I once played back to back rounds vs OTR where I lost 15 holes one time and won 17 the other.
As to the ambiguity of cracking 90, if I shoot a 90 or lower ill pay a 10k bonus (offer only valid for next week).

We just like giving our friends a hard time. No opinion on your golf game or style of match making.

You do have to admit that saying you're bad and then trying to get action would be a classic hustle.

At least you two don't have to pay the "cute golf clothes" premium.
02-17-2014 , 10:05 PM
Doesn't that work itself out in free drinks at the clubhouse?

You were specifically exempted (mostly because I've never seen you mix two plaids AND a stripe, unlike some people)

I'm sitting on the left of the big whale in the 80 game. Twice already he's squeezed his cards in a way that I couldn't help but see what he had, both times I mentioned it to him. BVB, he squeezes and I can see something like the 4/5/6 of clubs and before he can do anything I yell "** I can see your hand." he stares at me blanky, I say "I saw a club". He completes, and I wtf-raise Q3o (Ordinarily I would check), he calls, Flop is J92r no club he checks I bet, he folds.

Should I have done any different?

Standard answer is no, you did everything right. But I think you do have to consider if the big whale needs special treatment. If he's likely to get upset and quit the game, which leads to him never coming back and the game not running for a month, then you'd be better off giving him his $160 back. If he just shrugs it off like nothing, then just politely tell him that you are an honest player and that you and possibly others can see his cards.

I'm sure some people will disagree with treating people differently based on how good they are. I'm just worried that if you keep pissing off losing players there will eventually be no game.
02-18-2014 , 09:07 AM
I have found that, oddly, telling people that you can see their hands seems to piss them off. Unless its like an old lay or an old guy with a ww2 hat, I usually dont say anything anymore
02-18-2014 , 10:42 AM
I start purposely looking up and to the left when action is on them on my right if I know they will likely look at their hands in a way I will more often than not be able to spot the cards. If I am looking anywhere in the area, I can't help but focus on the cards when I see the paint, so I just remove myself from that possibility.
02-18-2014 , 11:51 AM
I usually tell them once that I can see their hands. It's not like I'm trying to look. If i see it again, I might say something to them away from the table. If it happens a third time, well, at that point they must want me to see their hand.
02-18-2014 , 12:12 PM
If you and flasher are in the 6 and 7 seats, he's giving you an unfair edge that the 3 can't have. Once you warn him a couple times, I don't think you're obliged to look left in a hu pot. Slouching or moving your chair to look would be wrong. In a mw pot, I'm not sure. If we grant seat changes are bad for the game we're taking a unique edge from most of the table. In the real world where the whale gets angry when you bring it up...
02-18-2014 , 01:58 PM
He's actually a very nice quiet guy and I'm on good terms with him, our Silicon valley whales are nothing like the Commerce/CAZ whales. All the regs do an outstanding job keeping him happy without being patronizing. I think I handled that part ok, if I actually had a hand there I would have shown it to him and said "I was just trying to protect my hand man." but ofc I couldn't show him Q3 .

I've also noticed that telling people their cards flashed mostly gets them really upset. I guess for poker players it's like getting caught naked. We are a weird bunch...
02-18-2014 , 02:30 PM
I've never had anyone not correct after warning once, but I usually say something like, "I can see your cards when you X. Can you Y instead?"

People have been pretty nice about it, but I can see how some people would be upset.

If anyone got upset, I would probably do what those marriage books tell you to do when you fight with your spouse - focus on yourself, e.g., "I feel really uncomfortable when I can't look anywhere in your general vicinity for fear of seeing your cards," vs. "I've already warned you. It's your fault for not taking me seriously."
02-18-2014 , 06:55 PM
I've run well while leading with "excuse me, be sure to protect your hand, ok?" before "i could see your cards". The latter is optional and more confrontational, imo.

Weather stranded me in DC for several hours this afternoon. I wanted to get to Maryland Live, but same weather has stripped everyone of available rental cars, apparently, and i dont have the balls to expense the 50 minute cab ride. My consolation prize is drinking cask conditioned Nugget Nectar and succumbing to my bartender's recommendation of chicken and waffles for dinner. A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

How in the world we can answer this question if you don't tell us effective stack size and how much did you raise ?

Here's my story for today. 5-10 game. Straddle 20, UTG+2 calls, MP calls, BTN raises to 130, folds around to UTG+2 who insta-shoves for 2500 (yes, 2.5k USD), MP mucks and BTN calls it off after 7 sec deliberation. BTN wins with Js8s vs AdQs and is scooping the 5k pot while giving a speech about how nobody should push her around because she is crazy and also that she knew for sure she had two live cards so enough to call that other bozo's LOL-all in.

Then all of the sudden she calms down and turns to me, looking genuinely serious and asks "you as a professional, tell me if what I did was really bad or not all that much?"

Give me the best line for an answer. FWIW, the table is all regulars.
