Bellagio 20: Two BvB Hands Where I Go For Max Value
Villain in both hands is a young winning TAG who plays very well and whom I am very good friends with. I think we both have a pretty good handle on each other's play and have played/talked poker a bunch over the years. He thinks I am way too laggy pre and slightly too laggy post, but that I generally play very tough postflop. We seem to go out of our way to play pots with one another.
I have been drinking and generally being kind of a gadfly over the last couple of days and have a somewhat stuck/spewy image at this point.
Hand 1:
I open SB with AKo, he calls BB.
Flop J62r, I bet he calls.
Turn 4 putting up FD I bet he calls
River 7 I bet
Hand 2:
I open SB with K7o, he 3bets I call.
Flop K62r, I c/r he calls.
Turn 4, I bet, he raises, I 3bet.

Re: Bellagio 20: Two BvB Hands Where I Go For Max Value
no chop?
h1: I kinda feel like only a better hand is calling so I lean on a check call vs this opponent who is capable of bluffing (betting when checked to).
h2: I absolutely wouldn't 3b ott. his line seems super strong to me and since the flop is so dry your range is weighted towards a K, 2p or set, I don't know if you would cr with like QQ or JJ here or a hand like A6 ..... OTT We're drawing dead to 44, 66 and kk although that's one combo. we have 5 outs vs AA and 3 outs vs AK. I don't think he would put this much action himself with QQ or JJ - that would seem rather bad based on the type of player you describe despite your image... I think I would call his raise and play poker otr. if he seemed really confident (not nervous - mellow w/e) after cbetting the river and we don't improve I might seriously consider folding. At game speed I would probably call though.
I'm interested in responses as BvB and HU is definitely a weak point for me and a place where I'm lacking experience.

Re: Bellagio 20: Two BvB Hands Where I Go For Max Value
Hand1 is an interesting spot vs a buddy you talk hands with. Hard to say w/out knowing the exact dynamics. It's close if he just calls with like ATo pre but even then I would say it's a little too thin. It's not like there's a ton of semi-bluffing hands w/ no SD value you can have on that board so he basically has to hope you have some random 3barrell like QT to pick off a bluff w/ Ahigh. Of course C/C pretty much gets you v-owned (unless 'he knows you know' that). If there's a chance he b/f's 6x to a c/r I might like turning your hand into a bluff, otherwise c/f is probably ok too.
The 3bet in hand2 I think is spew.

Re: Bellagio 20: Two BvB Hands Where I Go For Max Value
hand 1: what has been his bb strat in bvb situations? what% does he 3b about? trying to see if he takes control IP w/ small pairs or if he waits for turn or raises flop etc. may not make a difference here b/c at some point he'd have likely put in a raise w/ 55 unless his strat is to just call you down if an a/k don't show (and maybe even if they do). either way it's a close vbet, slightly negative at worst if he doesn't bluff raise. if you're not calling a raise, i'd check if he's capable of that thought process (though tough to sell any hand here that call/call/call/raises. A7/K7?)
hand2: you've shown extreme interest in this hand. 3bets in pf, 3bets in flop, and you got raised on the turn w/ top pair weak kicker. you'd have ot have the perfect dynamic here (which you may) to 3b this and get called down by a worse hand. if he just calls turn, given his range, i'd say >50% you get popped on any river save an ace.

Re: Bellagio 20: Two BvB Hands Where I Go For Max Value
hand 1: how often does he 3bet Ax pre? if fairly often, then i don't love the river VB. against most solid players i suspect c/f the river might be best, though in practice i usually c/c, which i think is a mistake. i mean he's probably going to check behind with the hands you beat most of the time, because your line looks exactly like c/c with ace high. of course if he just calls pre with Ax most of the time (which is fine imo), you can make a case for the VB.
hand 2: brutal 3bet imo. i don't get it at all.
