30/60: What If ...?

Villain is a strong LAGTAG 2+2er and he knows who I am. Villain: In case the action seems off, it's because it is. I won't embarrass myself by posting my actual line, but I was wondering how this could have played out. Hence, "What if ...?"

5-handed, 3 folds, SB (Villain) raises, BB (Hero) 3-bets with TT, SB calls.

Flop (5.7 SB): A53
Villain checks, Hero bets, Villain calls.

Turn (3.8 BB): 6
Villain checks, Hero bets, Villain raises ...

Call down and lose to 65o?

Any history heads up worth noting? Is he capable of c/r a draw? I call down with 3! on the turn as a second option.

Ready to be flamed ...

Re: 30/60: What If ...?

You beat second pair, the 3rd flush card came out, and you are up against a LAGTAG who will raise this turn with a lot of hands that TT beats. Plus you were also 5 handed (probably makes his range even wider).

So yeah, calling the turn raise is standard.

I think if calling down a turn check/raise is close, then why not check behind the turn? Seems like against an aggro player you should either be bet/snap-calling down or bet/snap-folding. This seems like a good hand to check behind.

Wait, what? Should our checking range come between our bet-for-value/fold and bet/call ranges? I don't think so.

I kinda like checking back here too. Provided you have a wide 3betting range and are going to be giving up with like QJh's on this turn most of the time, I'm not too worried about turning my hand face up or whatever.

Uh, we have top pair. With a good kicker. On a board with lots of draws. Yeah, checking had to be right!

Re: 30/60: What If ...?

A lot of opponents will have "too many" draws in their turn c/r range with the turn card creating one-card OESD and flush draws. So it's probably an exploitive call-down based on description let alone anything else.

For what it's worth, checking back the turn is what I did but was embarassed to admit. He has a ton of 1p hands was well as unders he might think are good, e.g. Q9. I'm more interested in b/calldown vs. bf (or b/3?) but if there's serious consideration for checking bAck that's cool too. I just don't want it to be a "aw **** I dont know whAt to do if raised so I'll pussy out and just not bet" check.

As for checking back I don't think you can with the 3rd spade out there. There is too much value to reap from unpaired one spade hands.

so you snap-fold to the c/r then?

I'm fine with bet folding here. Just think that bet/call, call certain rivers is spew unless we're fistpumping against a maniac.
