That's what I think. I mean, on reflection, rather than trolling the so obvious troll, we could wager/pay on what DS's opinion would be on the straddle.

Or, you know, could ask him, "You ever straddle FLH?"

LOL

Huh? Obviously jon means he can profitably play the button while straddling. The button is the most profitable position. If he wants to play the game then he thinks it is +EV to have the button and straddle.

I do too fwiw. Does anyone want to play a 3 handed game where I straddle the button every hand and the button never moves? The other two guys can switch seats every hand if they want to make it fair.

No, of course not if the button never moves.

Relative to not straddling. I thought that was obvious. I guess not. Nobody's arguing that, or has been arguing that.

1) You get to play more postflop
2) People play horribly preflop in this dynamic.
3) Wider ranges cause many horrible postflop mistakes that are highly exploitable for experienced short handed pros.
4) You get to play every hand... what's not to like? =D

Higher winrates generally come with higher variance~ Unless you like playing small stakes like the yellow brick road that is live 20/40 where no one raises.
+1

Button straddles 3 handed and regular straddles are two completely separate issues. 3 handed button straddles may actually be +ev.

We all agree having the button is +EV. Likely the -EV of a straddle is not greater than the +EV of the button.

This is very likely not the case. You’re basing this on the notion that blinds are always negative EV. In a normal blinds situation, this would be correct. However, in this game there is no position is a blind. It is not a bad assumption that the sb will lose in this position, as they act first and will have to fold a ton. Then, the bb has the disadvantage of having to put in 3bb to RFI. Otherwise they have to limp and play a capped range or a really tricky range.

Having to put in more money OOP to RFI before the IP player even acts is too much of a burden to overcome. It’s the same reason why HUHU is not played with the larger blind on the button and the OOP player acting first. It’s too much of a burden to overcome.

Button straddling three handed is terrible unless your opponents are brain dead

How? Explain it in terms of EV. Which position becomes the +EV position? The big blind?

Button straddle CAN be +EV imo.

I've never played a live 3 handed game where opponents adjusted correctly and/or didn't tilt vs Button Straddle.

However, I never/ rarely Straddle unless it's agreed by table everyone must Straddle & game will run at least 1-2 hours.

Think Straddle any position CAN be +EV as long as you adjust well as Straddle & opponents don't which is usually the case in my experience.

OT: Will quit game but 3 handed with Maniac LAG Fish & ninefingershuffle would be very fun if agreed MUST Straddle 100% until 1 person quits
