Full Tilt Poker cuts affiliate commissions to 3%

Assuming this post is accurate this is huge news. Does anyone know how this will affect RAF rates at Full Tilt?

I guess this only applies to rakeback affiliates. Still huge news.

Good, that should put an end to all the illegal over 27% deals out there.

What it'll put an end to is all races, freerolls, and refer a friend percentages so it's the players that loose out!

Yes, I realized this after I posted. Sorry for being ignorant, my mistake. This will pretty much cut sub affiliates completely out of the picture.

We have been informed by Full Tilt management that beginning March 1st, commissions for all rakeback affiliates will be set at 3%.

This change will not be retroactive and will only affect the commission on players who sign up starting March 1st. Players will still be paid 27% rakeback.

As we learn more from Full Tilt about this change and its impact on Poker Affiliates, we will post updates.

Hopefully this will allow FTP to implement a rewards system similar to Stars.

Full Tilt must have noticed a big increase in generated rake since they started with Rush Poker so this seems strange timing.

I assume there is much more to it than just plain greed....?

Re: Full Tilt Poker cuts affiliate commissions to 3%

I think this will be an interesting test. Because FTP is pissing off all of their rakeback affiliates and paying drastically less than any of their competitors, we are about to find out how much new rakeback accounts actually mean to a major poker site. Will it hurt their business at all?

I know that I made it a point to sign up two people for FTP accounts last week while I was on vacation in Costa Rica, and I certainly wouldn't have done that at the new 3% rate, but will that really matter? Will enough affiliates drop them to the worst position on their sites or stop working with them completely to have an effect on their bottom line or will things just roll along with FTP making some extra cash and affiliates making less?

Back in the day, when rakeback affiliates negotiated their own deals and an upstart couldn't get a competitive percentage from anyone because they didn't have the established track record, Full Tilt was the first site to give us a competitive percentage. We ran with it and were doing over $100k a month within a year and the other sites quickly offered us max percentage deals once we had some traffic. That FTP is now the only site that doesn't offer a competitive rate is ironic.

I'm still amazed by online poker rooms and the bad decisions they make, even though I've been watching it for years now. They want an extra 5% so they anger all of their biggest affiliates. Jacking the rake up 5% or stopping rake races or a ton of other things could have made them a few extra bucks if they were really hurting (they aren't) but instead they bite the hand that feeds them. Baffling.

Rake Tracker / Poker Affiliate Solutions, who broke the story, sent out a newsletter yesterday to their marketing publishers.
