I have become aware that pokerstars offer a (up to) £400 first deposit bonus but you can not recieve this if you already have an account (obvisouly) but could you create a new account (say in my mums name) with her bank details to take advantage of this deposit bonus????

I wouldn't because if they find out it's not her playing on the account they will take action also they read these forums so if thats your actual name your posting from you have already shot yourself in the foot

You can't create a new PokerStars account but you can open a brand new pokerstars.fr account. There's a poker boom going on in France at the moment and I imagine the table are full of fish. Sounds good considering that France was already a giant aquarium before the boom.

I spend a lot of time in France since I'm a french citizen (I live in the UK) so I asked them about the .fr site. You don't have to be french to open an account, you can play from anywhere in the world apart from the US, Italy and a couple of other countries and you can take advantage of the first depositor bonus worth €500 which is about $650, even if you already have a .com account.

pokerstars.it also has a $400 bonus so you can probably get that also but I haven't asked about the .it site, only enquired about the .fr

The traffic probably isn't as big as on the .com site but it looks a big site to me, probably busier than most online poker rooms. The layout and schedule is similar, just tourneys have a lower guarantee.

Of course you will require a European bank account to play on pokerstars.fr

Why do you assume that? I didn't ask because I have a french bank account but I can see no reason why you would need one. Also you can deposit via e-wallet accounts.
