Hello,

I'm not a computer expert, but I'll do my best to describe what's happening to me. I'd be very grateful for any help. (If it's not against the rules, I'd be happy to offer a 6max NL coaching session to anyone who could sort this out for me and would be interested in that.)

tl;dr: I'm running Windows 10 and my computer randomly restarts or turns off (usually while I'm playing lots of tables!). This problem is costing me a lot of money and turning my hair gray. I'll do about anything I can to resolve it, including purchasing a new set up entirely if that somehow is my best option.

With the help of a more tech savvy friend, I build a PC last fall with the following components:

Intel Core i5-4590 BX80646I54590 Processor (6M Cache, 3.3 GHz)
Gigabyte GA-Z97-HD3 LGA 1150 Z97 HDMI 2-Way CrossFire ATX Motherboard
Kingston HyperX FURY 16GB Kit (2x8GB) 1600MHz DDR3 CL10 DIMM x2
Sapphire AMD FirePro W5100 4GB GDDR5 Quad DP PCI-Express Graphics Card
Samsung 850 EVO - 250GB - 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD
Corsair CX Series, CX600, 600 Watt (600W) Power Supply, 80+ Bronze Certified
LG WH16NS40 Super Multi Blue Internal SATA 16x Blu-ray Disc Rewriter

monitor:

ASUS PQ321Q 31.5-Inch 4K UHD 16:9 LED LCD Monitor (Black)

Things were working well for the most part, but in the past few months I've experienced the problem I mentioned before: without warning, my computer restarts, turns off the screen (leaving me seemingly no options for getting it working again besides restarting), or turns off entirely. Also, not sure if it might be related, but by HEM2 is very unstable and crashes/lags frequently. I've spent hours trying to resolve this to no avail.

A few things I've tried:

-Changing the settings in 'power options.' It's now set to never turn of the display and never put the computer to sleep.

-Using the keyboard volume up and down buttons to get the monitor working again (I dunno. Someone said this might work.)

-Paid the Remo people to resolve registry issues. I was kinda skeptical, but trying anything I could and one guy said this might help.

-A few other things I just don't remember at this point.

Any advice on what to try? Should I go back to using Windows 7? Thanks in advance. I really appreciate any help you guys can give me.

Sounds like it's a power supply issue. Swap it out with another known working one if possible or test the one you currently have using one of the various methods. There are some PSU testers that come with a POST test card and if the PSU is good that would be the next thing I checked. This one isn't bad for the price. May want to get help from the tech savvy friend if you're not that tech savvy.

How full is your hard drive (SSD)? If it's pretty full I think that can make HEM buggy but not positive.

I would go back to Windows 7, with the Enterprise/Pro changes I would be surprised to see some dumb subscription model rolled out for home users. It's kinda just a personal preference though because I would imagine if the roll out a subscription model you will be able to go back to 7 but who really knows.

Thanks for replying!

I don't have any to swap it with, but I can purchase one of these testers. Something like this?

The hard drive still has over 100 gigs free.

have you checked your crash reports?

also have u opened up the side panel to check for dust etc? when u built your PC did u apply thermal paste to the CPU n cooler?

make sure fans are running correctly and everything is clean inside (dust etc) and make sure vents are not blocked or covered and can breath/cool freely.

also did the problems only start happening with win10? was it running ok at an point in time?

you could try and replicate it without using your poker software.

just to see if it is when under pressure is it cutting off. Try opening lots n lots of youtube videos in various browsers all at same time

keep opening different apps on your pc Really overload the ram and the CPU

see does it restart also.

if not then probably down to one of your poker softwares being buggy possibly in windows 10?

Looking now, but it's pretty much all gibberish to me. Should I post the report from my next crash?

No thermal paste, but there is some dust in there that I will clean out.

I've always had Windows 10 on this computer. The HEM crashing has been happening since the beginning, but the random retstarts/shutdowns are relatively new.

I'll try this. The seems to occur and random times though. It's not always when I'm running a bunch of programs.

Thanks for all the help!

Might be PSU, GPU failure or CPU failure or just overheating.
Can't know much without error logs.

yeah next crash post the log.

google will be ur friend on that i would say but still post it here.

when u built the PC there should be thermal paste put between the CPU and cooler, if not maybe there was a spongey type grey thermal pad already in place that the manufacturer put on the bottom of the cooler/heatsink? this is important.

MarcoSilva helped me out for a few and it appears it is indeed and overheating issue. I purchased some thermal paste and hopefully that will resolve the issue. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks again for all the help!

Its easy to test if it was just a thermal paste issue. Download AIDA64 https://www.aida64.com/downloads and run a stress test, about 10 min should be enough for CPU to reach max temp.

Could easily be CPU vcore decratation , faulty memory controller or a faulty RAM.

Applied the thermal paste and everything seems to be working a lot better now. Thank you all so much for your help!
