I have a 24 inch dell monitor I also have a hp computer with phenom processor and tv tuner card. I was wondering if this was enough to be able to watch direct tv either hooked up to the computers tuner card or directly to the monitor.

Yes you can hook up to the computer from the DirectTV receiver. You need to verify you have a TV Tuner Card and not a TV Video Out. If you have a TV Tuner Card you should have a wire harness that plugs into the TV Tuner card. This harness will have RCA plugs on it. You could also use a coaxial cable to go into the coaxial input on the TV card if the TV card has a coaxial.
You will need to install the TV Card software which turns the computer into a digital video recorder(DVR). When the application that is the TV card software starts it will open a window that should have the video from the DirecTV receiver. You can also get a second LCD and run dual monitor and drag the TV card software window onto the second screen. Have one screen to watch TV with and the other for computer work.
Some monitors have the ability to be plugged directly into by a TV source but you lose the ability to see the computer. Plugging directly into the monitor makes the LCD computer OR TV but not both at the same time. Plugging into the computer TV card allows TV and computer desktop to be seen.
Is it a high definition card? I have a HD card and pick up over the air broadcast. Record at 1920x1080. Crystal clear also.

what inputs does your monitor have, and what outputs does your direct tv box have?
