When you go to a website most websites usually have pop ups -- when you go to close the pop up by clicking on the x in the corner of the pop up -- after clicking the x the mouse arrow always spins like the blue spinning wheel circle etc as if the page is loading or something, is this some kind of tracking thing the website does?

Why I ask is after going to the ignition poker website and talking with chat using a fake email, the next day I started receiving spam from some gambling sites with codes to my email that I use which is not the email I gave when doing the website chat with ignition poker. When I googled these codes they showed as codes used by ignition, The same thing happened with another gambling website, so I'm wondering how they got my email, all I did was chat with a fake email and click the x to close the pop up from the website.

Don't click on pop-ups to close them because often the malicious ones are coded as a single image (so what looks like an x in one corner is just part of a huge button with the effect of "INSTALL MALWARE" or whatever).

No idea about your Ignition issues but always try to close pop-ups with Ctrl-W.

Actually my bad its not the pop up but the sign in with the x in the corner of the sign in window. When you go to a website say to read a article they usually have a sign up to newsletters etc window which pops up and covers the page, so this prevents you from reading the article unless you click the x in the corner to close the page, while some have the option like no thanks to registering etc to close page.

When I click the x to close the page that's when the mouse wheel spins for a few seconds as if its collecting some user info, and was wondering if it does?

Nearly every website you visit is going to collect some basic information such as IP address, web browser user agent, operating system.

In your case, the rest of the web page/web app functionality might be loading during what you're describing.

Yea it's quite annoying. Keep in mind that it's really easy to get malware from a lot of the websites. You jsut have to be careful with the links you click. As a pervious poster said, a lot of the times the "x" on a popup can be actually a prompt to install the malware. Altough there are some decent ways to protect yourself from malware.

Overall, a lot of it has to do with using common sense when browsing the web. Having a good piece of software like in the link above can help, however it can also slow down your browsing experience.
