I know this has been posted a few times but Im still kinda confused and would like some help. I'm simply trying to get my screen to show up on the larger tv monitor. I have a dell inspiron 6000 with a VGA port. My hdtv is a sony with a DVI port. Would a cable like this be good enough for 4 tabling full tilt? I've heard some say u need some converter box which is like 300 bucks (way too much). Would a cable like this work???

I know you can convert from dvi to vga with a simple cable, but I'm not so sure it works the other way around. I would try wiki.

There are cheaper solutions like cards that allow you to output dvi through the pci. Not sure how much they cost though.

Unless your TV is 1080p/i you aren't going to be getting more screen real estate on the TV.

I decided its too much of a hassle/expensive for me. I wish all these new hdmi cables and everything would go down in price. Thanks for all your help tho, I appreciate it. Thanks

You can find HDMI cables on line for less than a dollar. Try Amazon.
