Try using one of the supported codecs...
Quote:
Playable Codec format:
“DIVX3.xx”, “DIVX4.xx”,
“DIVX5.xx”, “MP43”, “XviD”, ”3IVX”
... to output an actually supported video file, instead of .mp4
Quote:
Available File extensions:
“.avi”, “.mpg”, ”.mpeg”
E.g., convert the file to .avi using DivX5

MP43 is a version of the MPEG-4 codec.

FWIW, doesn't the TV have an USB port?

You can download codecs or codec packs independently of your editing software.

All I can do is suggest trial and error with codecs and settings. If your file meets all criteria listed on page 7 of the manual and still doesn't play, chances are your device is just not compatible with the player.

I didn't think USB-HDMI converters exist, but a quick search showed me they do. It also showed they seem to be ridic expensive, so you might as well buy a new DVD or Bluray player instead. Also, there's a very good chance a converter wouldn't work the way you'd expect with your TV/player.
