Hey all,
Thanks in advance for any replies to this, much appreciated.

I have a 2010 Macbookpro, which I love, with 8gb of ram and a 250gb ssd, but I seem to be pushing it beyond it's limitations. I'm often multitasking by making videos in Camtasia (I do this once or twice a day for coaching sessions), running parallels with pt3, browsing, skyping and so on.

I'm looking to upgrade my mac so it can handle this sort of load and thought perhaps the mac mini quad core i7 2.6 with 16gb of ram could handle it? I've been reading the forums which say the video card in this model is a bit underpowered (, Intel HD Graphics 4000), but I'm not running 3d games or anything so it should be fine for my needs?

Imac isn't an option as I use a projector now, so don't want to buy a screen, so if I don't buy the mac mini, then I'd be thinking about a mac pro.

Pc isn't an option.

Cheers
Cog

HD 4000 is great for non-gamers. I have HD 3000 on a previous-gen i7 chip and no issues with anything at all. The only exception might be if you start talking multi-monitor setups if the resolutions are large enough. Those aren't video cards at all by the way, it's the graphics engine integrated into the processor. Which today is what you want if you don't have special graphics needs.

That said, I think the i7 variety of the Mac Mini is an excellent product if you're an Apple person and want to keep things simple. I'd see how it handles heat under load and, if you do buy it, do the RAM upgrade yourself.

The Mac Pro desktop isn't worth consideration, it's been abandoned for a years now. They're rumored to get around to it in the coming year, but the price won't make any sense and it doesn't sound like you need anything more high-end than what you're talking about. The Mini is still a little overpriced but you get a very decent form factor and certainly capable hardware.

Thanks Gonso. I'll go ahead and get the i7 and grab some ram from owc as well as an external casing and bracket to I can use the 1Tb hd it comes with as an external drive and my 250gb ssd as an internal.

Appreciate the advice.

OWC also sells a Data Doubler that will let you install your SSD inside the Mini along with the HD.
