UBUNTU 16.04.2 and Windows 10 DualBoot PLEASE HELP

Hello All,

I'm attempting to install Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS via bootable USB on my PC (which is currently running windows 10) and having a few issues. I have gone through the step by step setup and configured the USB correctly and am able to access the GNU GRUB screen from my USB. It gives me the following options:

Try Ubuntu without installing
Install Ubuntu
OEM Install
Check disc for defects

I have tried both the 'try ubuntu without installing' and the 'install ubuntu' options and in both situations, one of 2 things happens. Either the screen goes black straight away, or some lines of code appear that look like this (and after a few seconds the screen goes black):

0.110238 CPU2: Package temperate above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)
0.118023 CPU5: Package temperate above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)
0.123135 CPU7: Package temperate above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 1)

Either situation ends up a black screen and me having to physical restart the computer via the power button on my machine. I downloaded a program called CPUID HWMonitor and also checked my BIOS only to verify that my CPU is often running at very high levels above what I found online to be a recommended range for my CPU (50-65 C). In some scenarios, it climbs into the 90s. I am not a gamer and dont really run any programs consistently that require that much power (other than Camtasia which i max run for an hour every other day at most).

I am running a EVGA GTX 1070, and ive read that sometimes there are graphics card compatibility issues. I dont know for sure if that it was causing a problem here or if there are additional problems (or other problems that need to be checked before worrying about the graphics card).

I've posted several times on the ubuntu forums, but I find most directions pretty confusing and not exactly specified to my needs, so any help you guys could offer me would be incredibly helpful. I will include a list of my hardware and any steps I've made thus far within the framework of trying to install UBUNTU and hopefully that is helpful. My apologies if i haven't described things well here or left out too much detail. If i can clarify anything further please let me know. Thanks!!!

Other steps i've done thus far:

Ran RUFUS and created a bootable USB stick (via UBUNTU website tutorial)--USB stick i have is 4GB
disabled fast startup within Windows 10

Re: UBUNTU 16.04.2 and Windows 10 DualBoot PLEASE HELP

If you're running Windows 8, 8.1 or 10, I'd suggest starting with a Linux VM running inside your Windows environment, unless you need access to GPU resources or other specific hardware that isn't able to be passed through. To enable Hyper-V, open "Turn Windows Features on or off" and check the Hyper-V box. If it tells you that virtualization features are disabled and won't let you install the Hyper-V feature, you will need to enable the processor virtualization features in the UEFI/BIOS firmware menu. You'll need to turn on at least VT-d.
Here are some basics on Hyper-V VM creation. Let me know if you decide to go down this path and have further questions.

Before people get too confused about this, Hyper-V isn't available on Home versions of Windows (just the Pro / Enterprise builds).

Ah, sorry about that. I haven't run a non-PRO SKU in quite awhile.
If you're on a Home SKU, Virtual Box may be worth a shot. I still think VM > Dual boot for most scenarios.
