Triple Monitor display

Hi,

I'm interested in upgrading my monitor setup, but unfortunately I know next to nothing when it comes to hardware. I've read the sticky RE: monitors but haven't found the answers to my question. Ideally what I am after is a triple monitor display, with 1 big monitor in the middle, and 2 smaller monitors flanking it (probably in portrait orientation). From what I've been able to discover it seems like this might work with either 1x24" + 2x17", or 1x27" + 2x19"?

It should look something like this:
.

What I am wondering is what do I need to be looking for in terms of resolution, and what monitors would be compatible? I'm leaning towards having a 27" monitor in the middle with 2560 x 1440 max res. If I wanted to flank this with 19" monitors, what resolution would I need them to be? If they are in portrait orientation, will the edges be flush with the 27" monitor, or will there be overhang?

Any advice as to which monitors would work together in such a setup would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Re: Triple Monitor display

With 30" 2650 x 1600 displays it was easy, you just grabbed two 1600 x 1200 of the right dimensions and rotated them. However 2560 x 1440 are a slightly different scale, to work right you'd need 1440 x 900s that can rotate the 90 degrees. That takes care of matching up the resolutions.

From there you're looking for thin bezels of similar size and just measuring the physical dimensions of the displays to make sure they'll line up right.

Re: Triple Monitor display

I am changing to the three monitor one large and two smaller ones because I tried three of the 30" ones and it was too much. I don't use the two out board monitors and I am going to sell off the two large outboards.

Anyone wanting any advice or trying to locate some 30's PM me.

I'm considering doing something kinda similar but using my old tv (40" Sony Bravia) for overkill... And 2x24" on the sides... But I currently only have a video card with 2 dvi outputs and possibly a couple hdmi (need to check).

Just felt like sharing really

Re: Triple Monitor display

Yep, Dell U3011 (I have this one), HPZR30W, or if you are feeling adventurous and want to try and save some money, a Crossover 30Q5. Dell 2007FPs are good for the side monitors. I picked up a couple of refurbs from Dell's ebay store for about $120 each.
