hi, hoping people can help.
i want to increase my computer skills alot without taking expensive financial engineering program.
my interests are dealing with large amounts of data, econometrics, analysis etc........ my microsoft excel skills are quite good but i want to get way beyond that.... also, my interest would have to do with automating trade execution etc.
i do tons of microsoft excel work but the number of major files/data i collect is overwhelming due to much of excel's work being spatial. i'm think higher level computer languages are much better for the work being more purely logical... sorry if that doesn't make complete sense. basically want much much more effiicent ways for dealing with the large amounts of data.
my interest is NOT so much derivatives/futures/hedging if that matters to the answer.
is learning C+ the obvious first step and the obvious program to learn? other candidates are probably visualbasic, R, MathLab name?, python...... is that overcomplicating things?

R or Python if you want to do some data science/big data stuff, I think
