Screwed up boot.ini

I installed Ubuntu on my computer(it's a mac) and then unnstalled it and it ****ed up my partition I think. I'm pretty sure the fix is to edit the boot.ini file but I can't get to it because that's on the windows side of my computer(I installed and uninstalled ubuntu from windows) and that won't open due to the error associated with this file.

I lost my Windows xp CD so I can't do the recovery thing.

What do I do?

Re: Screwed up boot.ini

In the future if you want to try another OS without messing with your current system you should use virtual box. It loads the OS as an application inside your current OS install without touching anything important on your current OS and it's free.

Maybe you can try using fdisk on a boot disc to rewrite the MBR? I wouldn't try it though without backing up any important data because it could yield in losing everything.

Is there no way for you to get an XP CD somehow so you can properly recover it?

Re: Screwed up boot.ini

So in recovery mode I'm in C:\WINDOWS> and I typed "type c:\Boot.ini" and it returned this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Home Edition"
/noexecute=optin /fastdetect
C:\wubildr.mbr = "Ubuntu"

I want to get rid of ubuntu so what should the text look like? Remember, I'm on a Mac with osx and I originally added windows xp via bootcamp. The only reason I say that is because I'm afraid that I'll somehow delete osx if I mess around here. I just want it back to being osx and xp. No ubuntu.

Re: Screwed up boot.ini

How do I edit that file in the recovery console? I obviously can't just set it to default since I have a partition and am using bootcamp.
