Just got video card replacement in the mail today, would like to put it in so I can use my PC immediately. Can I wear a latex glove (or do something else) to prevent shock, or do I have to buy that wristband?
I've done video card installation on a ratty wool carpet with no problems. Just make sure to have all the parts together so you're not walking around to get them and discharge yourself (har har har) before you start the replacement.
Keep the PC plugged in, but switched off, to maintain ground when you do the above (or switch off the surge protector and keep that plugged in if there is no PSU switch). I think it takes a lot to actually damage most components, and if you are careful what you hold on to on the GPU, chances of damaging a part are minimal.
