Cannot emphasise this enough. Running Combofix without precise instructions tailored to your machine can cause no end of problems.

I have accounts in many different sites whether its banking, poker, forums etc. Read to not use same password on same site for obvious reasons. I have all my username/passwords on my computer in a microsoft office sheet and also on my usb as well. Obviously if i lose it, thats very bad b/c it has the site and the password in it. Also its passwords i made up so obviously it isn't that secure.

I was recommended by others in a forum to use keepass to store my passwords/documents. I had never heard of this as im not very tech savy. I downloaded keepass 2 and it seems pretty nice. So basically i was told just remember your master password and thats all. Then you could put things like yahoo, hotmail etc and thus your password would be stored.

First off, what passwords do most of you use? Is it passwords that you easily remember and its something sorta simple or do you put some 15 or 20 digit/letter that isn't even a word etc and thats your password? Or do you use keepass or another program to generate a password for you? At the moment, im considering just having keepass 2 get a new password for every site i go on and change every current password i have. Would you recommend that?

Also when you make password for each site, i assume none of you have exactly 20 letter/number password for each site right? I see keepass offer 40 hex, 128 hex and 256 hex. I dont know what that means but obviously from looking at it, the bigger the hex, the longer the password and more secure it should be. So would you recommend some sites do 128 hex, others 256 hex and some 40 hex? Because from looking at keepass, then i have to change the length of the generated password for each site i visit and i can't imagine everyone doing this for like 30 sites for instance.

I would also need to have access to my passwords on my iphone 4s. Am i suppose to just download the mini keypass? The thing that also confuses me is how would i be able to access the keypass 2 program on my laptop that has my username/password for each site then? Do i have to manually type everything from the keypass 2 on laptop to my iphone 4s mini keypass? I can't imagine i have to do this but then again theres no username when logging into keypass2.

So how would one backup the keypass 2 on their current laptop if somehow i dont have access to the laptop anymore? I know i cant just use another computer, download keypass 2 there then type my master password in and then it would open my keypass 2 from my laptop unless theres something im missing here? Thus at the moment if my computer doesn't work anymore and i dont have access to keypass, then i wouldn't have access to any of my passwords.

Do all of you recommend to write passwords down on paper as well? I do have my passwords on paper as a backup but these are the passwords that i created. But if its passwords generated by keypass 2... its going to be 20 letters long each and well that would seem to be lot of writing of passwords on a piece of paper. But curious if anyone keeps password on paper as well.

Have an asus 14.1 laptop that has 1368x768 resolution that i almost always connect to a monitor that either is 24' 1920x1200 resolution or 20' 1600x1200 resolution. I currently using the 1600x1200 monitor at the moment and with the asus laptop, it looks like how it always looked with that resolution.

I got a new sager 14.1 np2740 laptop that has 1920x1080 resolution though i didn't really care about it as i would be connecting it to a monitor with 1920x1200 resolution most of the time. I connected it to my 1600x1200 monitor and what i dont get is why are the icons on my desktop much bigger than on my old asus laptop? Also it seems like the letters and everything in general with the sager laptop looks much bigger than 1600x1200 resolution.

Is there a reason for this? Resolution does show 1600x1200 when in screen resolution so not sure why this is the case with the sager laptop. Everything basically looks oversized. Also when i have a poker client on, the words are much bigger and oversized. By that i mean the username where with my asus, it shows my full username since i have it saved but with this sager, you can't see the full username and have to move the arrow to the right to see it. Not sure how to explain it well but does anyone know what i mean?

Also my holdem manager 2 , the word/font is very big where lot of the words on hem2 when it loads doesn't seem to be placed correctly. Such as start import etc. I asked a person from HEM about this and they said to change the font... i did that and had same issue.

The guy who taught a church sponsored program on computer security uses one of the password generators but he printed out a master list and keeps it in a secure place.

I'm pretty sure the place you were told to use Keepass instead of a Word document was this forum.

Anyway, no. Do not write them down. Unless you can guarantee that your paper will never be compromised, that kind of misses the point. Why not just write them down if that were the case.

It appears that you haven't read one of the most useful threads in this forum. It will probably answer 90% of your questions. That thread is the sticky thread by Funkyworms dealing with security. Watch video #1. And then the rest.

Can someone tell me how i input the file into my iphone? It has all my passwords for sites at the moment. I have keepass2.0 on my laptop and also put a copy of it in my usb. At the moment i cant sign into any account of mine in my iphone because i dont have the keepass in my phone.

I downloaded minikeepass on the iphone. How do i get the keepass 2.0 file from my laptop into the iphone? I tried downloading onedrop into both laptop and iphone. i then put the keepass 2.0 file into the onedrop on my laptop. Then i signed into onedrop in my iphone but when i tried to open it, it doesnt allow me to open... it gives me option to open with google drive which makes no sense. Also i cant view the file either...

I heard of that one and lastpass as well. However, i read keepass is the best one. I like it quite a bit on my laptop. I basically don't know why it doesn't work on the phone at the moment.

I've always used Firefox which has master password built into the browser. I've never thought about the security of this setup but always wondered why other browsers don't natively have this feature. You can use the search function to easily look up the site credentials in the event the login page changes.

keepass is the only real option (it is open source, compared to lastpass, where security breaches are a major risk)

Agreed. Always use a reputable open-source alternative over closed-source when dealing with security. Not because its security is necessarily better, but rather because it's verifiable.

While this makes it safer, don't count on it as being flawless. As recent events have shown, even Open Source can have significant flaws.

How am i suppose to update the keepass into my iphone each time i update the keepass passwords on my laptop? Am i suppose to update the keepass into dropbox and bring it into minikeepass each and every single time

The thing is with my usb, it has the keepass file there but each time i just plug it into my usb port, it automatically updates the keepass file on the usb.

Not sure about dropbox files, but if you're using a local file you can synchronize that file via iTunes for the minikeepass application as part of a normal sync as follows.
Go to your phone in iTunes. Select Apps, then scroll to the bottom of the screen to get to the File Sharing section. Select MiniKeePass then add the file(s) you want to synchronize (xyz.kdb or whatever.)

I have documents whether its excel, word or videos/pictures on my computer that i would like to password protect. Im the only person that uses this computer but obviously i would not like it if someone was to have access to my computer and view many of these documents. I know its possible to password protect them... i had a document sent to me a while back that was password protected and could only be opened by adobe.

I would like this for certain documents i have not all of of course in my documents. Does anyone know whats the simplest way to do this? Basically i have certain documents whether openoffice word or excel and some pictures/videos that i want password protected. I don't have microsoft excel/word just openoffice and it works fine for me.

Thanks.

I had an old asus laptop that was an i3 laptop that lagged quite a bit when i played online poker. I play 20 plus tables with HEM2 and TN1. I was told my laptop is not fast enough because it was an i3-370m processor. I upgraded it from 4gb to 8gb but it didn't do that much. Still lagged once i hit close to 20 tables. I also had an ssd as well.

I was suggested to get a quad core laptop so i won't have any issues. I bought the sager NP2740 few months ago. When i first got it, it was very fast but i didn't play any online poker with it. I just used it for web browsing and sites etc. I then later on downloaded HEM2 and TN1 and play on pokerstars. I still have a lag when i play around that much tables. Also... my laptop lags quite a bit when i have a lot of chrome windows open. I probabably have 6 windows open but each window i have at last 8 tabs on each.

Anyways when i upload files through adrive while web browsing, i have a horrible lag. Also when i type like right now, if im uploading something or downloading stuff whether on adrive or photobucket... my typing lags a lot letter by letter. First off is this normal or not?

The other thing is my laptop is an i7-4770HQ with 8gb of ram. It has the Intel® Iris™ Pro Graphics 5200 which i was told is one of the best even though all i do is play poker online. I of course have an SSD for this as well its samsung 250gb ssd.

Does anyone know why every new computer i buy, after a while it always lags and slows down? I do currently only have 144gb free out of 232gb.

AFAIK, only certain versions of windows has the password protect feature built in. One way to hack it might be to zip everything up into a zip file and password protect that instead of trying to password protect individual files.

The only time you should have a computer with only an ssd installed is if it's going to be used on a very irregular basis imo. You are supposed to install all your programs and OS on an ssd then put all your other files on a standard hdd.
