Re: power supply good brands

Antec, Rosewill, Thermaltake, Corsair are all fine. Just make sure to get one that's 80 PLUS certified.

Seasonic, Corsair, Antec are my preferred brands (Seasonic actually manufactures for a lot of companies, including some models by Corsair and Antec). You have to take them model by model though. Even the good brands have some undesirable low-end models.

I would browse NewEgg for them and read the reviews carefully.

This may be more that you care to read, but it's informative.

Every single power supply I have ever bought has been a Corsair. Never had any failure and would highly recommend.

Totally agree with this. My corsair PSUs have been rock solid for years.

I don't recommend OCZ, both for quality and for warranty exchange.

Re: power supply good brands

The other thing with power supplies is that reliable ones tend to stick around for a while and become popular if well-priced. They don't go obsolete as fast as processors and video cards do. Even with a good brand I think it's better to avoid the newest models in favor of something that's been around a year or more, and has built up some cred.

If you want to know what the "good" ones are, then go to NewEgg and browse reviews. Select the features you want and sort by rating... those with a proven track record aren't hard to find. NewEgg being the PC hardware site that it is attracts a lot of knowledgeable computer enthusiasts who know what they're talking about. More reliable than Amazon reviews anyway.

Re: power supply good brands

Do they? The ones on NewEgg all look to be 3-5 years. For what they charge for some of those models they should be 10 years. $320... man.

I've been partial to Antec but everything I've read suggests you get what you pay for when it comes to PSUs and the PLUS 80 Certified tag actually does mean something.
