I've been playing on 17 inch laptop and now want to add a monitor but not sure what is best in the region of $400-$500. Looking at 27 inch ones and as far as I know, resolution is the key. Although I don't play too many tables (up to 8, maybe 12 one day), I want a nice resolution, most likely a 4k.
Any suggestions, recommendations will be appreciated

Your laptop probably won't support any 4ks in that price range, since those would be mostly Korean monitors (though check on ebay to be sure). At 4k, I would recommend at least 30inch diagonal, but that depends a bit on your personal preference and tolerance. You could find a 28 inch at 4k within your budget. There are a lot of options, and to be honest, for poker, it doesn't really matter that much how good the picture quality is. Just make sure the ergonomics are decent (swivel, tilt and for me most important is height actually). Also don't buy a TV, as they might not have the right refresh rate, which is one of the few import factors for when selecting a monitor.

Thanks a lot for the input. Bigger than 28 inch is probably not necessary for me atm. Do you know how I can check if my laptop will support certain monitor? Also, what refresh rate should I be aiming?

Go to the manufacturer website of your laptop or try googling it. Most newer laptops will. If you have display port, you will be able to run a high-res external monitor. Refresh rate shouldn't be an issue with a computer monitor, I just recall a friend complaining about the refresh rate of his TV, so avoid those.

if ur not willing to go bigger than 28in, then the 4k res is not much use and i would go for the 2560x1440 ones. for 4k res, i recommend 32in or bigger

i have a 27" 1440p (2560x1440) I can get 9 tables on that with minimal overlap and still have the second monitor for other stuff. cost was abotu 275$ If it makes a difference I am not running a HUD. (would if i could, live in Nevada). best purchase i ever made, 2 monitors is so much more productive. Took a few days to get used to but its great.

@IGMB: Please provide your laptop model and output port. Older HDMI ports will only be capable of outputting 1080P/60 max and that will shape recommendations.
After establishing that, Monoprice offers both a WQHD (2560x1440) and UHD (3840x2160) 27-28" monitors. The ultrawide 21:9 3440x1440 monitors bear consideration as well.

Hi, I'm a beginner playing spin and go's, I'm only playing one table atm on a 15.1 inch laptop 1366x7689 resolution which is capable of outputting to 4k resolutions so no problem about that.

I'm looking to buy a 27 inch monitor, but I don't know what resolution I should choose. 1920x1080 or 2560x1440

1920x1080 is much cheaper and for 3-4 tables (which will be my maximum) I think is enough, also the tables will look bigger because of the smaller resolution.

2560x1440 costs me 130€ more and again, for 3-4 tables I don't think it's necessary, and also, because of the bigger resolution the tables will look smaller? with smaller HUD text etc?

What do you recommend me?... I feel that buying the 2560x1440 is a bit excessive for my current situation (not planning to play more than 4 tables)

Anyway, I've been reading forums, reviews for +3 hours and I'm exhausted xDD Any recommendations/opinions would be much appreciated I don't want to postpone this decission forever.

I would personally still go with the higher resolution. 1440p on 27" was still quite comfortable for me resolution wise. For me it's about general productivity. I prefer having more screen real estate. Also it leaves you flexible if in the future you should decide you want more screen real estate.
Whether the tables look smaller depends on the software, if you are talking about Stars, then I think it should scale well. I think that HM2 and PT4 also scale with bigger tables, but I'm not sure about that. You may have to ask their support.

Buy either a 2560x1440 or UHD/4k 27" monitor.
The 1440 monitor will work well at straight up 100% scaling.
If you go to 4K, you'll need to muck about with scaling factor (probably ~150% to start) to get the combination of real estate and readability you need.
Buy a monitor with an IPS or *VA panel. You're going to presumably spend multiple hours a day looking at this, a panel that is a bit easier on the eyes is well worth the added cost over a TN panel.

I actually have 2560 x 1440s in a 25" size made by Acer, they're sub-$300 and IPS panels. I wouldn't use these for high-end graphics works, but for home recording studios, poker, etc they're excellent and the size seems perfect for my desk.

Well i use the 32" LED Monitor by Samsung. Got it like 2 years back for around $400.

this one which seems to be a great allrounder but unfortunately doesnt have an IPS but a TN Panel

I usually 3 table, and for tourney 6-9 so I figured that +my laptop 27" and 2560*1440 should be sufficient, so for the long hours I sit in front of it my main concerns are my eyes and viewing comfort

It's hard to find the perfect one with anti-glare, flickerfree and IPS

Any recommendations?
