Hey all, I'm sure this question has been asked plenty of times, but times change, so it's probably something worth being asked every now and then.

I am in search of a PC poker laptop. All I care about is resolution and screen space. I want as much of that as possible. I guess I care about resell-ability a little bit as well. I'm willing to spend up to 1k. Suggestions?

It's a question that's asked ALL the time. You'll get the best answers just by reading the last few pages of the forum. Pages 1 and 2 probably don't have too much right now, but before that there will be loads.

Anyway, you'll also get more help if you add critical details:

1. 1k in what currency?

2. what does "poker laptop" mean to you? how many sites, how many tables, what tools, how big's your database, etc etc?

3. do you want other stuff running while you play - web browser, video, music, skype, whatever?

4. do you just want to use the laptop's own screen or are you looking at a secondary monitor?

5. do you want to be able to do anything else with the machine at all (particularly gaming) or is it just for poker?

etc etc

Okay I play online in the US these days. I'm looking to play bovada, america's cardroom, and carbon on it. I run PT4. I would like to be able to do basic things such as music, skype, and web browsing on it as well. I would like to plug it into a monitor, but also be able to play with it on it's own. I would like to use it for traveling. I would like to play as many as 10-12 tables on it easily, though I will probably usually try to limit to around 6. I don't have any other immediate use for the Laptop other than poker really. Screen space and resolution are important to me. Not much else. 1000$ USD.

I already have an Ipad and a macbook pro, so those are what I use for casual daily browsing. This laptop would basically be solely for poker, and other things that I use while I play poker (PT4, skype, web browsing, music) but nothing else too fancy.

Thanks for the help, I apologize for the redundancy.

Just out of curiosity because I see this asked time and time again, in what way do you think it would be relevant whether or not he uses those progs?

Also fwiw, the most important question is, do you really need a laptop? Why not a desktop?

Yes I need a laptop. I already have a desktop, and it works great, and I have been doing good on it, but it is very limiting. For one, I can't travel with it, for two, it's upstairs in my office. I play tourneys and put in regular 5-6 hour sessions with very little break time (bovada really ****s this up by not having synch breaks) so there are periods where food is a big logistical concern, especially for me, because I try to cook most of my own stuff and eat decently healthy. So yeah, travel, and more flexibility with moving about the house and making food are the biggest reasons I need the laptop. As long as I get one, I want it to be dependable though and optimal for screen space, as I see a direct correlation between screen space and monetary success through poker.

Finally, I have a macbook, and a couple sites that I play are not mac compatible. I do have windows on it, but I hate running windows through it and the HUD has problems, and there are other random errors that come along with running windows on mac and I am not nearly tech savvy enough to deal with them. So I would just prefer to get a good reliable PC with good screen space for 1000$ and I definitely think it is worth that much to me. But like I said I'm not very tech savvy and I figure a lot of people here are, so maybe they could give me specific help.

EDIT: All of this said, I still expect to play more on my desktop than my laptop, I just want the option to play on either for the above reasons.

Clearly the days are long gone when it made any sort of tangible difference to processor/RAM requirements. Some of the reason you see it asked is probably a hangover from several years back, but I still like to ask because by engaging with an OP in real world (rather than hypothetical issues) you get a much better sense of what they want from a machine.

Sure you don't actually just need a fridge and microwave for upstairs?

Lol, I wish, renting right now though and that would be a bigger cost? Besides, my meals usually require more than that. and I can't take fridge with me on the road =P

Sorry if I'm being dumb, but what is a PC poker laptop? Is it a PC or is it a laptop lol

It's a laptop. By PC he means to say Windows machine, not OSX or Linux.

Even if that's not strictly what PC means, your interpretation is also wrong. Laptops are a subset of PCs.

I've checked the last couple of pages so I wouldn't be redundant but it's hard to find specifics. I'm looking for a laptop that I can use mainly for online poker. I would want to run just a few tables at a time, max 4-6 tables. I would also like to run flopzilla and eventually a HUD. Besides that I would be using it for Internet access, music, photos and some simple documents. Do you think this model would be sufficient?

i5-4210U - Dual core, undervoltage. It'll be fine for 4-6 tables, but the HUD + flopzilla...Probably not your best pick
