I do not connect to an external display. But on the Retina MacBook Pro's specs page at:

http://www.apple.com/macbook-pro/specs-retina/

it says:

Native Mini DisplayPort output
DVI, VGA, dual-link DVI, and HDMI output supported using Mini DisplayPort adapters (sold separately)

You can get a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable on Apple's website for $59. or you can get one for less than $10 on eBay:

HDMI wont support 2560 x 1600 @60hz. At least that monitor does not have HDMI 2.0 dont know about Mac think that one is not that either. You have to get
a mini dp cable same as thunderbolt both will work.

When I right click on a word/phrase in Safari and click "searchwithXXX" is there a way to make it open in a new tab by default? I know I can hold down the command key to open in new tab but would like it to do it by default. Thanks

Use the search with option at the bottom (there are two shown one close to the top the other close to the bottom.)
Alternatively, click with the middle button to open in new tab if your mouse has a scroll wheel button.

Played a few sessions on mac so far, got some things that really frustrate me....

888: when I want to open settings it just opens random across the screen or even on the other screen.

Stars /hud : Every time a table needs action and I click on it, the table 'blink's for a second and the hud dissapears for like 0,5/1sec and comes back on. I know it doesnt sound like a major issue but when 12/14 tabling this is supertilting.

Anyone got a solution?

Do I need a uninstaller program for my Mac? I've heard that the usual way sometimes leaves files behind.

Don't necessarily need one unless you add and remove apps frequently.
Having said that, I do use AppCleaner. Helpful for those apps where the devs didn't implement a proper delete routine.

I too use AppCleaner. Along with deleting and trashing the apps, it deletes the related (preference, etc.) files that would be left behind if you were to just trash the apps that you no longer want without using AppCleaner or a similar app.

I need to create a Windows 7 bootable USB in OS X to install on my desktop (Ubuntu). I've searched around and haven't been successful.

Bootcamp doesn't give me the option to create a USB and Unetbootin* won't boot Windows on my desktop.

*I'm not sure if it even can but read somewhere it should work.

Thanks in advance.

trying to find a functional temp gauge or fan control application. I ffwent to macupdate where they had smcFanControl and Macs Fan Control.

The former hasn't been touched in over a year, so I went with the latter. As soon as the download started, Avast Web Shield blocked something.

The installer downloaded, and scanning it manually didn't detect anything. So, is it safe to install? Did the web shield maybe block malicious ads or something?

Dunno anything about Macs Fan Control. Have you tried hitting (or googling) it?

I use smcFanControl and it works like a charm.

What specs would people recommend for a software developer's laptop? Moving from Windows. My default choice is a MacBook Pro retina, Broadwell CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD. Or should I pay for more?

Pretty much those imo. Wouldn't get 4gb ram or 128gb storage. Don't need more than 256gb thanks to so much free online storage.

Thanks. I'm wondering if I should wait for a Skylake CPU, but who knows when those'll be out.

BTW, planning on a 13", not 15", which I'd normally use with separate monitor, mouse, and keyboard.

was asking because this thing gets crazy hot with any sort of game going, so was hoping to manually control, but after reading around the consensus seems to be that MBPs are not laptops, they're notebooks, and as such aren't meant for gaming at all.

Different topic: best mac-friendly network storage that also works well with PCs? WD My Cloud works like **** for mac, but wonderfully for PC. Not helpful.

Hi 2+2,

I use a Macbook and I enjoy this expect for playing poker. So I want to have windows on it also. I cant have the both OS on my 125g hard drive, so I tried Vmware on external thunderbolt hard drive, but its too slow.

I want to try put windows on a external special USB card and just have access to one OS at a time. I'm afraid of the speed (80mo/Sec)

Do someone have this config. or a better idea?
