I thought there was a big thread for asking these questions but I searched through the first through pages of the largest threads and didn't find one. So mods if this needs to be moved please do and sorry for the clutter.
wondering if this laptop would work for what I do. I'm not a gamer. I mass multi table poker, watch movies, and would like to hook a decent sized extra monitor up to this thing. I need to be able to run PT3+HUD, a few poker sites, a web browser, and maybe music software without lag. I like having high resolution so I can cascade a ton of tables when traveling or play without having to hook up an external monitor.
I don't think the price is good enough for the components (or dell's supposedly poor build quality). But I apparently can get a $100 AMEX statement credit as well as the Xbox 360 which I could probably sell for $175-200 on Ebay. So that would bring the total cost closer to $550 after tax+shipping.
is this a good deal at that price? Is there value in spending more and getting another Lenovo? I've been using a Lenovo T61 for 4 years and absolutely love the thing. I've swapped in more RAM and am still using WinXP and if it could keep up I'd just keep plugging away with it. But it can't handle long sessions of 16 tabling and usually starts to overheat and lag like 2 hours in. Then I either have to close down tables or deactivate my HUD+PT3. I've thought about just buying an SSD and throwing it in this laptop, but I don't know if my other components are too outdated to take advantage of it or if I would need to update to Win7 (I have a Core2 Duo processor and the NON 64bit Windows)
any suggestions on laptops, places to buy, the above deal, etc is greatly appreciated. If someone wanted to walk me through the process to make the best decision possible I'd even be willing to trade an hour of poker coaching (FR or 6max cash games normally charge between 100-200/hr depending on client and stakes).
thanks for reading and any and all help
