New Monitors: Can't get them set up properly :( New Monitors: Can't get them set up properly :(

I just picked up 2 Shimian 27" monitors and thought I'd plug them into my HP desktop.

Right now I use a single LG 27" monitor.

I cannot get either of the Shimian monitors to work with my pc. Not as the main/only monitor nor as a second monitor.

I'm not really sure which specs I need to check to verify what, if anything, I need to upgrade on my pc to switch over to using the two new monitors.

pc is running windows 10

Processor: AMD A10-6800K APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 4.10 GHz

RAM : 26.0 GB (25.2 GB usable)

System type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor

Anyone have any advice on where to look in order to trouble shoot this problem?

Thanks.

(note: the monitors are new to me, but previously used and it appears the manufacture date is 2012.08)

what kind of connection/cable are you using?

HDMI, dport, etc

If you plug the power into the monitor and press the power button, does anything come on the screen (no input error message)? Can you press a menu button and see anything, such as a menu for changing brightness and such?

DVI cables as the monitors only have DVI ports.

The only thing I can see on the monitors is the flashing blue light in lower right corner which, I assume, means it is turned on. Pushing the power button turns that flashing blue light to solid red.

No change from hitting display brightness buttons. Screen is just blank (same as if it's off.)

FWIW, I also have an HDMI to DVI cable I've tried to use, using the hdmi out on my pc and still haven't gotten anything to show up on the screen.

Other possibly relevant info:

The monitors are 2560x1440 resolution and windows options only lets me select up to 1920x1080.

I tried updating my graphics card but found that it is fully up to date though now a legacy product (i.e. won't have any updates for this product any more).

-------------------------

I wonder if there is a compatibility issue with my graphics card and windows10 and/or the monitors... (??? real shot in the dark here as I'm not so knowledgeable in this realm)

I got the monitors from a friend. The cables were same he was using and the monitors were working fine for him so I don't think the cables can be the issue.

Those monitors don't have scalers and your computer won't output the native resolution

Would installing a new/better video card fix this issue?

Not to derail the whole thread but what configuration is your 26Gb of RAM? Is that 3x8Gb and 1x2Gb? What motherboard do you have?

I'm not sure what the original config was, but it totaled 10GB somehow. This is just a box I picked up for $500 from Best Buy a few years ago.

After I bought PioSolver I added these 2x8GB sticks:

IDK about the motherboard at all. If you can tell me how to look that up I can check.

It should as long as it can display the monitors native resolution. Ask your friend what he was using to get them to work.

I would ask your friend first just to make sure.

Depending on your budget you can get some decent deals on last gen cards now that all the new ones are out.

EVGA GeForce GTX 980 4GB CLASSIFIED GAMING ACX 2.0 1291MHZ
Boost 1393MHZ Graphics Card [04G-P4-3988-KR]

That's his card. Retails a bit over $900 CAD so I think I'll find a cheaper option. I ordered this on amazon today:

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00L5GZ81E/...088100_TE_item

It says it supports dual monitors and 2560x1440. Should arrive tonight so I'll see how it goes.

You can get video cards that support all of those monitors for way way way less than that. Maybe less than a quarter of that. Keep looking.
