Hey guys... I finally got some time to make a full write up of the issues I've been having.

For the past couple of months I've been running into some problems with my desktop. Before, I purchased the desktop I was using a HP Pavilion laptop for awhile. Then, decided to run a second monitor HP 2211x with the laptop. Which, worked great for a few months and then started lagging. So, I decided to invest in a more powerful machine a desktop ASUS PowerSpec B728 with an Intel Core i7-6700 Processor 3.40Hz with the HP 2211x monitor. It worked great!

Then, I decided to invest in 2 -24" Samsung LED SD300 Monitors to run them vertically. The lag came back, due to the dual monitor setup? I guess. So, I went for another leap by purchasing an XFX Radeon RX 470 4gb Graphics Card. Which, started off super smooth. Seeing how perfect everything was running, no lag, no stutter, just complete smoothness I couldn't believe my eyes, it was a huge burst of relief of serotonin into my brain hehe, what a feeling. Then, of course I began to witness slow internet!

So, the only issue I'm having is slow internet. The lagging was only occurring, while I was playing. Which, the graphics card worked wonders on the lag issues BUT unfortunately for some odd reason ever since I installed the graphics card, my internet has not been running at it's best.

It's hard to believe I need something else other then the graphics card. The only other thing that comes to mind is a Power Supply, maybe?


If anyone has witnessed this or/and solved the problem. Please, feel free to let me know. It'll be much appreciated.

what were your speed test results before and after the graphics card installation?

how is your computer connected to your router?

for the record, a graphics card should not affect your internet speed in any way unless somehow you messed something up while installing it, which is possible given the perceived level of technical proficiency i'm getting from this and your other thread

define slow internet. does your speed test actually go down with the GPU rather than without, or is it some weird thing you describe as "lag"

AFAICT, slow internet connections being somehow related to a GPU are a totally unheard of case. Make sure the card sits properly in its slot, and check the antenna cables for proper connection. Chances are you accidentally unplugged one of them when you built in your Radeon.

What's the white connector on the WiFi card? Or, put otherwise, does the card have a power connector that's not plugged?

Also, since the specs listed contradict the depicted PSU, is it actually a 400W EVGA PSU? FTR, 400W is plenty enough for your hardware setup. Even if it weren't, power shortages inevitably lead to system shutdowns and BSOD's and such, ie. severe errors. 'Just' slow internet connection again has to have different causes.

edit: Just realized, the pic can't be representative, because it clearly shows a HDD. Still curious about the PSU and WiFi card though.

if those monitors are 1080p, wouldn't the integrated graphics handle this just fine without any video card at all?

Most likely, yes, as I pointed out in the other thread - after he made the purchase. I strongly suspect software/driver issues as the cause for both the former screen lag and his actual bad connection.

BTW just for clarification:

I did a bunch of speed tests today with the dual monitor setup and by just running one. The numbers with the dual monitor setup reached no more then 0.09 Mbps on the download and upload. Then, when I ran just the one monitor it went to it's full potential, 14.2 Mbps download and 21.6 Mbps upload. The internet provider is Verizon using WiFi.

So, at this point I can finally acknowledge it's not the GPU. Which, was everyone's words.

That is the pic of my PC! I'm not so much of a tech head but I pretty sure it is a 400W Evga just by the picture and going into it. And, as for the WiFi card... Is it the white adapter with the bar code on the left?

wahoo3... They are 1080p, I think you're right! I may not even need the graphics card, after all.

Lastly... I even tried uninstalling the WiFi driver and reinstalling it again and nothing happened with that, either.

Wait, so that's what happens:

Screen A+B = bad connection
Screen A only = good connection

What if you only run monitor B? If the connection goes bad with only B running, this could be due to a badly shielded cable. Try B with A's cables then to verify. Swap and test both power and signal cable one by one.

Yes, the WiFi card is the other card there is, right below the GPU, the one with the antennas. I mean it has antennas, right? Not just empty plugs on the outside?



FWIW judging by this pic, the white connector doesn't look like a standard molex (ie. power) connector, so missing power is not the issue either with the card, as I suspected.

edit: You have a decent and sufficiently powerful (for your current hardware) PSU then, that's good to know. It's probably way more reliable than the no-name 500W from the spec sheet.

Correct... So, great news. I swapped the connectors and the other monitor worked as good as the other using the one. So, I need a new adapter?

As for the adapter that works, it's the DVI in the GPU w/ an HDMI end in the monitor. Unfortunately, the GPU only has one DVI spot/1 HDMI/3 Displayports.

Alright, yeah that's it with the antennas. I was actually a bit confused about the spec sheet, figured something was wrong.

Thought I had it, by plugging the connector a bit more in the GPU but unfortunately it only worked for a short amount of time.

You got me confused, are you saying you narrowed it down to a monitor cable? If so, you have two options:

1. replace the cable with a properly shielded one (preferred option IYAM)
2. replace the WiFi card

Antenna extension cables could be an option, too, but who knows how well shielded those are.

I really don't understand this thread. Your GPU is not causing your slow internet.

1. You have been asked at least twice to check that the wi-fi card is securely in its slot. An obvious explanation for the problems would be that you dislodged it when installing the GPU.

2. Is the wi-fi card in the second PCIe 2, as shown in the picture Baobhan-Sith posted, or is it in the slot above that?

3. Is there clearance between the wi-fi card and the Radeon?

4. Can you please post pictures of the relevant parts of your machine? Inside the case, showing the cards, and outside?

5. Separately, can you please report more fully on the permutations of monitors / connections, as was suggested? I'm assuming that you're connecting one via an HDMI/HDMI cable and another via DVI/HDMI. Please test as follows:

A. Monitor A with HDMI/HDMI. Monitor B disconnected.
B. Monitor A with DVI/HDMI. Monitor B disconnected.
C. Monitor B with HDMI/HDMI. Monitor A disconnected.
D. Monitor A with DVI/HDMI. Monitor A disconnected.
E. Both monitors, A with HDMI/HDMI and B with DVI/HDMI.
F. Both monitors, A with DVI/HDMI and B with HDMI/HDMI.

If your DVI/HDMI is an adaptor plus a cable, keep the adaptor on the same cable for all of these permutations, for consistency.

6. Last, presumably the machine isn't being moved at all?

Hey guys... Sorry for the delay, ended up going away for the weekend. Before, I left I decided to order the Verizon WiFi Extender, which diagnosed the problem. All in all, for some odd reason my WiFi connection decided to stop working. Thanks for all your help, really appreciate it. And, my apologies if I confused some or even all of you guys.
