Re: new build won't start

No display whatsoever?

Start with the obvious - unplug and reseat the DVI or HDMI connection from your display on both ends. Switch out cables if you have spares. If you have an alternate connection option with your monitor (DVI, HDMI, or VGA), try that too.

Usually with some kind of boot issue you will get something on the screen, or a beep on the motherboard. You hit the on button and the computer looks & sounds like a normal computer booting up, right? And it stays on?

Re: new build won't start

The other one is a VGA aka D-Sub 15 pin. You need a DVI (female) to VGA (male) adapter, don't get the sex backwards or you'll turn gay and also it won't work.

VGA is analog and somewhat undesirable but it will work alright enough if it's not an especially hi-res display. I'm 75% sure you can't use both the HDMI and DVI on that board at the same time but you could always try this for $9 and prove me wrong. If so you'd have two digital connections.

Remind me again what res are those displays? I don't remember you saying you had two

Re: new build won't start

lol

hey sorry to confuse you. i have 2 monitors with vga plugs. i already plugged one into the vga(female) port on my motherboard. so i would need: dvi-d(male) to vga(female) adaptor? also im gonna guess the pins in the dvi-d and dvi-i are different?

so the vga port i have on my mobo is analog, while the hdmi and dvi-d ports are digital? what is the diff between the two? sorry im a tech noob

max resolution on 1 monitor is 1280x1024, and the other one is 1360x768.

thanks.

Re: new build won't start

There's a long and convoluted answer but the short one is that I think VGA will work well enough at those relatively small resolutions.

If your #2 display has VGA, then a VGA (female) to DVI (male) adapter is what you need just be sure it's compatible with DVI-D. I misunderstood before and thought you had two DVI displays.

Re: new build won't start

if i'm understanding everything correctly (you have 2 displays that are VGA only, your mobo has 1 VGA and 1 dual-link DVI-D) then you will need an active DVI-D to VGA converter. DVI-D does not carry an analog VGA compatible signal like DVI-I does. googling for it only very quickly, it looks like you could get a new monitor that supports DVI-D for less than an active DVI-D to VGA converter.
