So apparently Google have decided that we cannot have nice things, and disabled half the extensions that I have running on Chrome as they've not been downloaded through their web store or something, so pending them reversing that decision very quickly, I'm off to something new. Firefox isn't an option as it always had huge stability issues on my PC for reasons unknown and obviously IE is lol, so where do we go from here?

You don't have much choice, especially if you want many extensions. Stay with Chrome or go with Firefox. You also have Opera but only like 1.5% people in the world are using it.

Chrome is the best choice tbh with HTTP s Everywhere encription and Ad block.

if you like Chrome, use SRWare Iron.

http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron.php

it is Google Chrome without the Google shenanigans and googleupdate bloatware and a built-in ad block

ty, did notice this and also comodo dragon which i believe is similar while scanning slashdot. would probably just get chromium if their webpage had an obvious download link (which if it does, i'm being idiotic and missing)

Yeah but you wont be able to have those extensions on them anyway.

I'm one of them, and I love it. Been using it solely since like v8.x, and never looked back.

We are the 1.5%, Baobhan-Sith. I love Opera as well.

I've been using Opera since around 8.x too.

I've been using opera since about v3.6. It is (or was) clearly the best browser. You want to be using the classic v12 though, not the new pos.

There is an interesting project aiming to recreate the classic Opera (12.x) UI using Qt5 Otter Browser. It's usable but not ready for prime time yet.

Is "Opera 12.16 for Windows" the "new pos"?

No, 12.x is the "classic" version i.e. the version you want, but the latest should be 12.17 http://www.opera.com/download/get/?p...dows&classic=1

You're forgetting the best browser of all, Safari

What browser and extensions are everyone using these days?

I just had to ditch Firefox on my mac bc of lag, switched to Chrome, installed Https everywhere and Ad Block Plus. Anything else I should add?

ditch abp and get ublock origins, also the great suspender is excellent if you multi-tab a lot. also last pass if you're into password mgmt software.

i have win7 scrollbars and autoscroll, but i don't remember why. possibly from my failed attempt to switch to linux

removed win7, as i think chrome has since fixed that issue for the most part, but for middle mouse clickers, autoscroll is a necessity

Safari - uBlock - ghostery - TrafficLight - RES - Evernote - HoverSee

If you're running a Mac, use Safari. Any other browser is a resource hog and not optimized to be running on OS X. I keep Chrome incase I need to access a page with flash.

Very much this, or you can use uMatrix from the same developer as uBlock. uB is an "install and forget it" addon like ABP, whereas uMatrix requires interaction the first time you visit some pages. The advantage of uM is it blocks more than just ads (if you want it to). It does so in a more convenient and flexible way than NoScript and RequestPolicy, letting you have the benefits of those but without every new site being broken. So imo uM replaces them both. As a bonus, for privacy, it allows referer spoofing and user agent spoofing (but you should update the outdated UA list it ships with). The developer says uM is for advanced users but imo you needn't be advanced, just unintimidated.

As for browsers, there's a new one Vivaldi (from the developer of Opera) that seems pretty nice. It's compatible with Opera addons. I'm trying it out but my main browser is still Firefox. My lineup is FF, Vivaldi and SRWare.

I still don't understand the support for FF. Unless they made an about face and started giving a **** about their users' safety & privacy, last I heard hacker competitions won't even allow FF hacks as the browser is too insecure for it to be considered an accomplishment to find a vulnerability in it.

I haven't been keeping up with browser security news. I only browse sandboxed and I feel invincible in the sandbox (for better or worse). Plus I have things like flash and java disabled, and scripts blocked.

Maybe I only use FF because I'm used to it after using it so long. I know the about:config preferences, the keyboard shortcuts and so forth.

Why do all this just for web browsing?
