Mozilla is Slow

Hi guys,

Since just before 2+2 was hacked Mozilla has been slow in accessing sites. First, it was just slow in relation to 2+2 then it spread to all sites.

I use AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2012 and have done a complete scan which came up with nothing.

I have also checked my Windows Firewall to allow Mozilla as an Exception.

No joy.

Any applicable ideas?

Re: Mozilla is Slow

Mozilla appears to have a memory leak. It starts to consume more and more ram the longer it is open. Switch to Chrome or just close and relaunch Firefox more often.

Re: Mozilla is Slow

I've found on some PCs Avast runs much better than AVG - there's a free version also.

If you're dead-set against trying Chrome (which you shouldn't be), try running Mozilla in Safe Mode and see if that improves performance- maybe there's a plugin that's screwing up the program.

Mozilla is resources consuming but more function, for fast internet browsing use Google Chrome.

I used Google Chrome - same problem. I will try your suggestion of Mozilla in Safe Mode and then maybe give the Avast switch a go.

Thanks to all who posted so far.

Re: Mozilla is Slow

If you are having the same problem with Chrome running Mozilla in Safe Mode won't fix the situation.

http://www.speedtest.net/

Test your internet speed.

By any chance are you downloading a **** load of torrents while trying to browse?

Same problem with Chrome. Thanks for the heads up. No torrents as far as I am aware. Will try the speed test when machine is idle.

Is it safe to use the free trial TuneUp advertised on the speedtest site?

Re: Mozilla is Slow

No idea. I have never used it and I generally don't like tune-up software.

Re: Mozilla is Slow

That is an expected result.

Just so we are on the same page -- sites load slow and you have this issue on both Mozilla and Chrome?

Is it consistent or just sometimes?

Do other applications work fine or are they also slow?

All sites slow down all the time when connecting via Mozilla and Chrome.

Non internet programs are unaffected and so are direct link (is that a term?) sites such as Pokerstars.
