monitor screen displaying like this :

Does this mean its totally ****ed? What would cause that, becuase there is no outside/visible damage to the screen? It was in my suitcase travelling (protected by bubble wrap) so something obviously happened that way, but just wondering why when no visible damage

It cost about 150 euro, having it repaired might cost more?

Looks like a busted screen. Occasionally it could be an issue with the graphics card or the connectors but less likely. You would see it generally if the laptop is on for a while as it starts to heat up. If its straight away its the screen. You can try to plug in external monitor to double check. You can also try and pinch with your fingers right side of the screen on top and see if there are any improvements/changes.

Usually it happens if the screen flexes or heavier weight is put on the cover. They generally physically crack if they are dropped.

It's most likely the screen but you could try and change the cable and/or wiggling the cable and the connectors on the laptop and the screen very slightly and see if there is any change; in case there is loose connections or the connectors themselves have become damaged. Assuming no issue with the image on your laptop. Screens can be damaged if weight is put on them even if the screen itself is protected. Best is to keep the original box and all packaging for transport but it could also be that it just died.

If there are no visible cracks maybe try and get it replaced under warranty, some (high end) monitors come with 3 yr warranty.
