budget?

There are almost unlimited options, and you'd have zero problem running a common 1080 or 1440 res setup or even greater without thinking about it. I'd look for something with a quality panel (no TN panels) with decent color accuracy if budget allows, but it's not essential, a simple 1080 IPS can be had for $100 anymore.

Looks like there's no HDMI so you'll want something that can connect via DisplayPort.

16:10 is kind of a dying aspect ratio nowadays, pretty much dead already. You can still find 1920x1200 displays if you really want to, but I'd suggest making your peace with it and stepping up to 2560x1440 and joining the 16:9 world. Plenty of affordable displays there nowadays, I have a couple of them in 25" size (1440 res) and they work great for similar purposes + music production. A couple of ASUS PB258Q's, I got them very cheap ($240?) on sale and I'd bet there are better deals than that with other displays.

Ill take a look at that resolution, i am not opposed to considering it. Budget wise, <250 would be fine. Ill take a look for the ASUS model you recommended. and will seek out an IPS panel regardless.
Appreciate the insight

Recently bough HP 23vx IPS LED monitor.
Impressed with clarity and sharpness for a budget monitor.

what's the diagnose look like for the old one? i had two samsung monitors with the same error profile in the past, just a black screen. took me under 1 euro and an hour of work to replace some busted condensators. now they've been running for 2-3 more years already. if you know somebody with decent knowledge of repairing and are into environmental friendly solutions it might be for you.

cheers
