modem/router recommendations

I have been dropping signal a lot the last 2 weeks. Customer service told me to buy a new modem. I had a tech come out and he couldn't find a problem, but did say my signal coming from their box was lower than it should be so he was going to have maintenance check their box. I guess I'll just try a new modem and if it is still doing it get them to take it off my bill.
Currently I have
ARRIS / Motorola SurfBoard SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem purchased in June of 2014
ASUS (RT-AC68U) Wireless-AC1900 Dual-Band Gigabit Router I bought this in 2014 as well and it was $200.
If I do need to get a new router I need something that can really stretch as my router is in one corner of the house but I'd like it to reach my bedroom and even get upstairs.
Thanks for any help.

If the signal coming into your house isn't at the right levels, don't waste your money buying a new anything. That's a last step, not a first step
Also, as an ex-ISP employee, I would bet five sklansky bucks the problem isn't with your modem.

EA9500 for a router.
Or google wifi if big house, or linksys velop if huge house.
Any Docsis 3.0 that can do 100mb modem is fine.
But +1 to ISPs fault.
