So im upgrading my laptop replacing my old hp laptop and this is the one im looking at. I'm also open to recommendations the only really specific thing is i would prefer to keep the screen range around 15 inches. 17+ is just too big.

I think you need to give people more idea of what you will be using the computer for in order for someone to tell you if it is overkill or not.

Having said that, the wife and I both have Asus computers and we like them.

this is for personal use some poker, some entertainment not real much gaming outside of poker. I chose this specific laptop because yes it might be overkill but i just wanna get it and feel like i don't wanna have to upgrade for a few yrs

You really don't need it and unless you plan on doing something other than "personal use" an i5/8gb/SSD will be good for years to come. Just keep it clean and do routine cleanings and it should be fine.

If you can afford it sure go for it as it's a nice computer but if I was going to spend that much I would want a larger SSD. Especially if you're running HEM/PT4.

The one you listed gets reviews and seems to have issues with the audio drivers.

This one is same price and is basically the same but it has 256gb SSD.

How old is your current laptop?

I find $1300 a bit to pricey, esp if you are just going to use it for entertainment and some gaming. There are some pretty decent options in the 700-900$ range, anything above is really a little overkill imo
