Sorry for this, I'm sure it is asked all the time but every one is obviously a bit unique:

I want a new laptop. It will be used at my home and likely exclusively so. Maybe 99% of the time. I don't plan on bringing it with me on travels or anything.

I don't care about touch screens, convertibles, or anything like that.

I will be using the computer for 3 things: Programming and running machine learning topics / data analysis, writing for a blog / website, and likely storing movies. I think it's probably better I stick with a regular HD rather than SSD but if the SSD provides a bunch of benefits in data analysis I might be OK with it.

I won't be using it for gaming, I won't need to travel with it, and I don't really need the data analysis to go super quickly.

I think I prefer just buying it used on Ebay or something, and I prefer just spending ~600 or so. I could spend more but I don't feel like I likely need to?

At this point I'm looking for some options that provide what I want and do so for the best bang for the buck. Any thoughts!?

Thanks guys!

The best bang for your buck will be in a desktop, not a laptop. Especially if you don't need any of the laptop's mobile advantages.

Unfortunately no room in the house for a desktop though I totally agree that's what I need. If I could get a desktop I could build it but in this case I'm in a bit over my head in terms of the quality of laptops and such

There are so many laptops out there lo.

From what you've said it doesn't seem like you need much power...why not just search google for cheap laptop deals?

For the data processing I definitely want something a little better than the cheapest kinds
