Typically your operating system will maintain a log for troubleshooting issues. It is called the Event log in windows operating systems. It may give clues as to what the issue is or provide more concrete information to Google search.

I'm not 100 percent sure. Do you mean windows updates? Because i think i made it i manually update windows updates. Back then, it would automtically everytime there is windows update and that is annoying because it would update every few days.

It's possible that whatever your friend did to your computer has something to do with it but I doubt adding the SSD was the direct problem (without knowing more about your computer and the SSD installed). From your previous posts about the issue after the driver installed it just sounds like your OS or your videocard doesn't support the driver you're trying to install so it doesn't display the information afterwards and you have to perform a system restore.

What operating system (OS) are you running? Is it 32 or 64 bit?

Well the thing is im not the only one having this issue. I checked other forums and many ppl said this specific driver they could not update it and had the similar black screen after restarting it. Well all my friend did was just take out the old 7200rpm 500gb hard drive and replaced it with the new samsung 256gb ssd.

Windows 7 64 bit.

I'm sure this has happened to other people but did you make sure that your driver was compatible with your operating system and video card before installing it?

Any way. To use the event viewer go to start and in the search box type 'evnetvwr.msc'. In the left hand navigation pane you will see 'Windows Logs'. Click on that folder to expand. Click on 'System' and look for any errors with a red or yellow message next to them. You can also filter for such events by going to the View drop down menu and selecting filter. We're looking for events around the time of the blackouts.

Also go to Start and search for Windows Updates and make sure your system is fully updated.

I downloaded a few drivers. The first time all i did was click update driver in my driver. Wouldn't this be the way to do it then since that has to be compatible?

I then downloaded the driver on the website the m300 series.

I then downloaded the an older driver update.

The older driver was the only one that didn't install and wasn't compatible. The other 2 it installed but once you restart the computer, black screen.

evnetvwr.msc, I typed that in search, theres nothing there.

I went to windows updates, the only thing i see is 10 optional updates available. Wouldn't that mean by laptop is updated already?

Dear all,

I have found a solution to most of your problems.

Simptons: Black screen after installing Nvidia Graphics Drivers

Solution: If your motherboard has an onboard graphics card, disable the onboard and set it to boot from PCI Express slot 1 (if you have it in slot 1, if not so then set it to boot from whatever slot you have put your graphics card in). Once done so, restart and it should go to the graphics card and boot up as normal.

(These problems mainly occur on the GIGABYTE boards with the UEFI BIOS

Problem: Certain motherboards (mainly intel type boards) fail to disable the onboard graphics when PCI graphics is installed.

Does this require you to open up the computer?

Sorry should be eventvwr.msc

This is advice for a desktop PC with an installed graphics card to replace or enhance graphics perfermance from the card on the motherboard. It's probably irrelevant to your situation as you have a latptop.

Also what were the optional updates from windows? Where any BIOs or hardware related?

Also I wouldn't trust windows to update the driver on it's own by right clicking and going to 'Update Driver'.

These are the optional windows updates when i click on windows update. A few days ago i updated all, the issue with this was once i did all that, the screen restarted and had black screen yet again.

So i then had to go back and system restore to a certain date to fix this issue.

So right now same updates are showing as optional updates available...

I typed eventvwr.msc.

What do you want me to do now?

You can safely install them all besides the nVidia one. That is for your graphics card. What is your laptop model? For example Dell Latitude 6500. It will help to know.

Go back in the thread for instructions on what to do in event viewer.

Sorry missed that from the OP. You can certainly try updating your BIOS using a utility from ASUS and then try updating your graphics card driver. That may help. CAUTION: BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHEN UODATING BIOS AS IT MAY RENDER YOUR COMPUTER UNBOOTABLE.

Asus support/download site for your model below. May start with the bios flash utility to see if it helps to determine which bios you are on and whether or not it can or needs to be upgraded.

I hear you. It's usually pretty simple and harmless you just have to make sure that when you're doing it that there are no interruptions or power issues that would cause the BIOS installation to go bad. I understand if you don't want to do it, though.
