Laptop charge port issue Laptop charge port issue

Got an MSI laptop, walked into the charging cable some time ago, this has slowly progressed into the bit inside the case that the charger plugs into becoming loose.

The laptop no longer charges.

Anyone have any experience with this issue? Know how fixable it is? Know the cost of repairing?

It is currently due to go to the MSI repair centre in Poland.

The bit that's inside your laptop that charges it is called a DC power jack. It's a small part that probably costs 5 bucks to get online, just gotta find the right one. For many laptops, the jack is soldered to your motherboard, and replacing it requires soldering. The only example MSI laptop one I see, shows them having a power jack connected by a cable - so you can avoid soldering by just buying a new jack and wire. Replacing a broken one requires opening your laptop up and removing a fairly decent amount of the parts inside. this is pretty straightforward, you can likely find a video showing exactly what to do, but you need to have some small tools to remove screws and be at least a little bit handy to get that done.

the part for your laptop is going to look something like this, though of course i don't know whether this one would fit your specific laptop. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/2715884...&ul_noapp=true this one includes both the dc jack, and the wire. it is possible to use your existing wire and change just the jack, but i'd suggest not messing with doing it that way.

video of how to access the jack - again your laptop might be different, but yours is likely similar to this.. in this video they remove everything to get the jack and cable clear - if you click one of the linked vidoes on there, you'll see a guy do it by fishing the wire out the other side which lets him leave the motherboard in place. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xy7WZuof2i0

this is a fairly commonly needed repair, and at least in the U.S. there are companies that will do this repair for you fairly inexpensively, maybe $100.
