hey guys,

I was attempting to clean my computer(lenovo a730) screen today by wiping it off with a tissue paper but I accidently wiped over a bunch of buttons on my screen, and I have no idea what the function of those is lol.

My PC screen went black, and I don't know to get things back to normal. I still hear the computers noise so I know it's on. I already tried to turn off the PC and unplug it, but that didn't fix the problem. When I start it up again the screen remains black.

I've also managed to lose the manual. Any idea's? here's a pic FYI

alright so apparently one of the buttons turns the screen on/off but once I press it nothing happens. fml

That's a standalone monitor, right? Is it connected to a desktop or laptop? If it's a laptop you might have changed something like which screen your display is on - try opening and closing the laptop lid, and if that doesn't work, try to find out which button is the one that switches the source.

Alternatively you might have turned the brightness or contrast right down. Can you work out which are those buttons?

Have you tried unplugging the monitor for a few minutes to see whether it resets?

If all else fails, try Googling the monitor make and model. You must be able to find the instructions online.

If you can't, post the make and model here and someone will help.

Please report back even if you fix it, in case your experience helps someone else in future.

thanks for your reply.

its an All in one PC. so it's not connected to anything else.

I figured out the brightness and contrast buttons (they are on the right side) but clicking those didn't help.

I have unplugged the PC yes but unfortunetaly that didn't work.

I did find the manual online! http://www.lenovo.com/shop/americas/...a730_ug_en.pdf

atleast I know the function of those buttons (page 7) but there are no troubleshooters for messing this up. I could have pressed a button to turn it in HDMI state or something, but if I press it again, nothing happens.

Make and model.. well its a A730 all in one Lenovo PC

so didnt fix it yet :P

Did you read the instructions?

There is troubleshooting help from p29 onwards.

Most promisingly, though, is button 10 on the picture on page 2. Press it. It's called "monitor on/off". It's the one that isn't illuminated (left of the ones that are) in your first picture.

Does indicator 8 change in any way, when you press button 11 a few times? (both page 2)

You also have to make sure that the computer is sending a signal to the monitor while you are testing the buttons. For example my computer is configured to switch off all screens after ten minutes of inactivity.

Another idea would be to connect another computer (or DVD player) to the HDMI in port of your computer; and/or connect another monitor (or TV) to HDMI out; narrow it down depending on what works. But I don't know what devices you have access to.
